In that case, the barge was tied to the shore! And the one before that, the barge was tied to the shore.

I agree with 2Suns, you have to careful at night. Going slow enough to react is definately the key.

very sad story and it's one of the reasons i don;t boat at night. on another note, it's interesting that there are sisters elected to congress from california at the same time. also, their brother's girlfriend was named penny. i always wanted a girlfriend named penny 'cause i figured she'd be a cheap date.

So these three couples are all involved in a fatal boating accident.

The 1st couple goes before St. Peter and St Peter says - You sir lusted after Booze so much your entire life you even married a woman named Sherry - Sorry you both are not comming in.

The 2nd couple goes before St. Peter and St Peter says - You lusted after Money so much your entire life you even married a woman named Penny - Sorry you both go on the down elevator.

The third guy looks at his wife and says " Its not looking too good for us Fanny "

Here's another possibility...

Maybe he was on auto-pilot?

Smaller boats than his have it installed.

I've seen/heard of quite a few collisions involving auto-pilots. Some folks take them a little too seriously...

I saw nothing that would indicate a barge was even involved. Correct me, if I am wrong. This could also be another case of another drunk boater hitting them and then running off. .....Or we could get into some real interesting conspiracy theories. Any grassy knolls around?

ouch

The posted official press release states that the collision involved the barge "Islander", which was being towed by a tug.

No grassy knolls around here...

A piece of fiberglass hull with registration numbers was found on the barge.

I couldn't see the radome in the picture in our paper but the 26' Bayliner had an arch for one.

The male victim's son saw them off for Buccaneer Days at Catalina. They said, "You're coming next year.", smiled and cruised off. Son said they were never happier.

Penny, the female victim, called a friend from the water and told her the conditions were great, calmer than a lake.

Sad story. Let's be careful out there.

Bodies Found in Sunken Sanchez Boat

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Authorities Thursday identified two bodies from a boat wreck as the brother of two California congresswomen and his girlfriend. A sheriff's department dive team recovered the two bodies off the coast of Los Angeles.

The Coast Guard Wednesday found a 26-foot boat belonging to 51-year-old Henry Sanchez, who had been missing since Oct. 2 along with his 48-year-old girlfriend, Penny Avila.

Sanchez was the brother of U.S. Reps. Loretta and Linda Sanchez.

Investigators say the boat may have collided with a barge being towed near the Los Angeles harbor entrance.

Sorry to hear about the news, but it was probably going to end this way.

Wow, if they were found INSIDE the boat, who was at the wheel?

Autopilot casualty?

The more information that we have about this, the better.

Education from fatality collisions sinks into most folks heads.
