This time of year, each time out well may be the last of the season. This past weekend, we had a wonderful day.

The weather could not have been any better. A light breeze, calm water, lots of sun, temps in the mid to upper 70s and crystal blue skies made for a day to be cherished.

So we decided to cruise down river to St. Clements Island to see some of the sights that the Blessing of the Fleet had to offer.

We did not start our cruise until about 12:30 and that's about our grandson's nap time.

Here is what the water looked like forward...

and aft...

The Potomac below the 301 bridge does not get much better than this...

A shot of the MD shoreline...

More to follow.

When we got there, there was a rather lively band playing and young James really loves to dance.

He was bee-bopping all day long and really had a blast.

Here is a shot of the island from the mainland...

The pier was crowded all day long with folks lined up to catch a ride over to the island...

We were lucky to find an open slip for our boat...

As events go, this is not the largest you might come across, but it was well attended and everyone seemed to be having a genuine good time.

Just a couple shots of one of the areas.

The cruise back to the marina was just as good as the cruise down.

Cruising at about 35 mph, these guys blasted past us like we were not moving...

I really have to make a point of catching a video of these birds sometime. They fly up and down the river all the time at speeds faster than our boat can travel.

I got to tell you all that I am content to just put the boat away for the season now as I doubt we can top this day. However, I can still hold out hope. thumb

Saturday truly was what boating is all about for us. Thanks for taking a look. smile

That's what it's all about!

My favorite time of the year. Cooler weather, flat seas and most of the knuckleheads have put their boats away for the winter.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing -- it brings back memories of a trip I took with my wife and brother last year. I had to get back early, so they dropped me off on the pier in your picture.

Thanks Admin for posting those pics. Of course you didn't have to wait in line at the pier to go over to the island.

Well, being a member of the 7th district procrastinators, I just never did get around to asking them. whistle
