I keep losing the wireless connection on my laptop to my wireless router. The signal strength is strong, but it loses the connection. This is not happening to my other laptop or else I would suspect the router.
XP Sp3, built-in wireless ABG on Toshiba laptop, wireless G router.
This disconnecting problem ha sgotten more and more frequent over the past few weeks. Now happening every two minutes or so.
Any ideas? I tried setting the "automatic" connection to an "on-demand" connection, but no improvement.
Each time I repair the connection by right-clicking the icon in the tray, it reconnects every time.

The same happened to my lap top. I got tired of it and borrowed a friends usb wireless adapter and it worked great. Turned out that the wireless card in your laptop is always partially on, it became heat sensitive. So the fix was temp usb adapter until company replaced. Just my 02.

What Loren said, could be your wireless adapter in the laptop is going out on ya. The winter we lived in the 5th wheel I had an ethernet card go bad, and while using a borrowed USB wireless adapter, IT just up and quit. It happens.

Great advice folks. Thanks.
I disabled the internal wireless and installed a PCMCIA Wireless Network Adapter that I had from a previous laptop and it works like a charm. Looks like I'll be able to stave off the purchase of a new unit for awhile!
Thanks Loren and FR.
Brent: I tried downloading a new driver for it, but that did not cure the problem. Windows told me I had the most up-to-date driver and gave me no other option but to quit. Do you think that now I have internet connection I should remove (?) the driver and re-install? I'm not sure I know how to do without losing it all.

It could also be your wireless router. You should see if there is a firmware upgrade available for it.

I've gone through several wireless routers over the years. You need to consider where you have your router located too.

I was having all sorts of problems with my Linksys router dropping connections. We had 3 laptops connecting so I new it was a router issue since none of the laptops could connect. I upgraded the bios, reset the settings etc, reconfigured my security features etc. and it kept dropping.

It was getting to the point that I had decided to buy a new router, but we were in the middle of a relo from Kansas to Illinois, so I decided to wait after the move. I get to Illinois, hookup my current Linksys figuring it would drop again in a day or two. Well that was over a year ago w/o any issues.

The only think I can figure is I must have had the router to close to other electronic devices at our old house. I have it in the basement like we did in Kansas, but I now have a separate rack about a foot above the cable modem. I don't know if that is what solved my problem, but it has not dropped a wireless connection in over a year and prior to our move it was dropping probably once per day.

I have not had a single drop-out since switching to the PC card and my other laptop never gets drop-outs, so I figure something went sour with my laptop.
