I didn't actually get a chance to go to the annual Miramar Air Show but it was only a couple miles from where I work so I went up on the roof and took a few long-distance shots. Occasionally a plane would venture closer and give me a better shot.

Man, supersonic aircraft are a lot harder to take pictures of than boats...

The 4FU Corsair sure looks nice....

Lots of good photos...I'm certain it takes a different set of skills to photo high speed aircraft.

What do you think was the most challenging part of it for you?

Panning and focusing, plus the light was not great for 400mm shots. Even at 1/3200 sec shutter speeds I got lots of blurred images.

Nice shots. I'd like to try my new SLR and 300mm lens out at an airshow.

Were you blurring from motion or just not focusing on the planes?

Mostly from trying to lock in a fast moving object that is over a mile away, against a very bright background.

So what hotel do you live in, troop? I see the Ramada is close by! grin

Nice pictures. I have seen the Blue Angels fly over my house that close twice, but my camera equipment couldn't take those kinds of photos. Saw a B17 flying overhead yesterday on the way to the boat, but the wife wouldn't take a picture of it!

Was she afraid she would use up all the 1's and 0's the camera had? Man, a Flying Fort you happen across is well worth the time to photo.

Interesting that the Angels' regular slot must've been down for repairs. I don't think I've ever seen the media jet used in a show.

As always, gorgeous photos!

For $350 I could have ridden in it! It's at the local National Guard base for almost a week. It's on a tour with the EAA. I noticed that is flys very slowly. And that is impressive!

Nice shots Troop. I've tried to shoot pics of airshows and haven't had much luck.

Not actually from airshows, but some of the stuff I see at work.

Taken over a period of time when I had my camera handy.
