Question folks. I just got 4 new grease seals by catalog along with other items and I am not sure about these things. The catalog showed metal seals but they sent me what appears to be composite ones. Are these things as dependable as the metal ones because it would cost me more to return them than to just keep them. I never installed this kind before and frankly I am kind of skeptical of them. Am I wrong here.

I have no idea if they make such a thing...They may just LOOK like composite, maybe they're metal that's coated with something? I changed all the upper seals in the outboard on the Party Cruiser this summer, a couple of them, even the ones they replaced, looked kind of like plastic, but after bending the old ones getting them out, I came to the conclusion they were metal!

Even if they ARE composite, maybe that's good, they may seal against the hub better?

My trailer came with seals that had what appeared to be metal rings inset in the seal. It looked like they rode against the back of the spindle. Like you, my replacement seals were different, appearing to be all rubber without the gold colored metal ring. I was skeptical but they worked fine. The next year I replaced the bearings and they came with the original seals, however since then I have noticed the same brand of bearings sometimes has the all rubber ones.

I would not worry about it if they are the right size.
