Got a triple-axle trailer that's rusting out. Looking for a company that does trailer refurbs - media blast; hot-dip; new wiring, lights, bunks, brakes, bearings, etc. Estimates run $2-3,000. Or should I buy new?

Any referrals to trailer repair shops in SoCal? Thanks.

What are new trailers costing in your area?

New trailer will run you double, BUT if you use it salt/brackish water you may be better off buying a new (Or newer) aluminum trailer. Otherwise you will be repeating the process (I am assuming it is a steel trailer).

Mostly salt water. Yeah it's steel "I beam" (no square tubing except the winch post.) I bought the boat/trailer used in 2003 and it wasn't in great shape then, so I've gotten 5 good years out of it. :-)

I have a galvanized trailer and am looking at having to replace all springs, one axle, and also just replaced both fenders. The trailer is 5-6 years old. This is all due to rust in salt water. If I had to buy a new one -- it would definitely be Aluminum for salt water -- not even galvanized -- -- my repairs doing all the work myself, will be about 500 dollars.

Spend the money to buy Aluminum for salt water -- that also answers your rebuild question

I would at least go shopping for a new aluminum trailer to see what the cost is. Mine has held up for 2 1/2 years with no visible problems (mostly salt water). Also less tow weight to deal with, a triple axle steel trailer is pretty heavy!

So how do the brake components hold up in the salt water? Are the pads/castings/springs/etc all aluminum, galvanized or not?
