My 6 year old son was recently introduced to the Bean Bag game (sorry, just couldn't use the other name in that phrase) at a friend's house and had a lot of fun playing it w/ some recent college grads. It was very nice of them to include him and they really treated him well; they seemed to all be having fun...running laps around the yard when losing a round, etc.

Anyway, we decided we would build a set and I launched an internet search to find plans and a parts list. The game seems to have gotten pretty popular the last few years and I though I'd maybe save somebody some time by posting my search results.

Top notch how-to website w/ plans, pics, explanations, etc...really well-done: Cornhole How-To

Yep, they have one: American Cornhole Association

Nice site, you have to pay $5 for plans, but there are useful articles and the comments after the articles are useful: CornholeCornhole

We haven't built ours yet, but hope to buy the supplies this week. There are numerous places to order stickers, etc but we may try to paint our own...or maybe get a stencil made.

Any other good websites out there? Anyone made their own? Tips? Pictures?

This post was a tad different than I thought it might be from the title.

I suppose that my have been because I clicked on it just after watching BoatsRule's video clip in FLB's News from the Road thread!

Having an official membership card might just be worth it! Can hear the laughter now.

Sorry, back now to your regularly scheduled thread.......

The most common name around here is simply "bags".

First Lawn Jarts got the heave ho due to danger, and I guess horseshoes were next in line...no flinging heavy metal objects around at the family picnic...that or China has bid up steel prices too much! wink

Actually, it is pretty fun and its easier for kids to play. They can easily move the boxes closer together and the the bags are lighter than horse shoes...and I hate to admit it...but it IS safer for them to play unattended.

AT,

I built 2 sets with my neighbor last summer. When I get home, I will get you the measurements for the location of the hole, etc. For the face, we just cut a 4x8 sheet of plywood into 4 sections (Hence 2 sets). We used 3/4", which is probably overkill (1/2" works fine), as many of the neighborhood kids like to walk on them during BBQs and other events. They are sturdy and work great. For the border we used 1x4s, however I may swap them out this winter for 2x4s for added stability again. The most expensive part was unnecessary, but made it alot easier, that was a 6" holesaw, for a clean hole, rather than a jigsaw.

We love the game, the whole family plays it. In fact when we had our family reunion this summer down at Ocean Isle Beach, it became the defacto game for all ages.

By the way, we just used varnish for the boards, and they are much faster than painted boards. We bought the bags at Dick's. They have a plastic version called Baggo, which takes minimal abuse before needing replacement (Boards at least).

I have made 6 sets. I bought the bags from Cornhole supply, they have the best bags for the best price that I have found.
Here is a place that will email plans to build your own set for free.

The hole saw works best to make the hole and I used the cheapest exterior house paint I could find.

I was introduced to the game a few weeks back at my son-in-law's bachelor party... it is indeed a real fun game. Then, this past Labor Day, we went camping and I saw more cornhole boards then you could imagine! One campsite had a whiteboard and a full on tourney going on!

Thanks for the links to the various sites... I'm going to build a set!

Definately a good game. Last camping trip we saw some that someone even put some led lights inside so they would light up for night time play. Look really nice.

Our neighbor made a corn hole game.

Here's a couple of more similar games you can buy or build...

Washers

Sounds like the old saying "Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades" now includes cornholes as well.

We used to play washers a lot when we had a small yard.

We got one of these sets for the beach. The board's legs fold in and the 2 boards snap together with the bags stored in pockets on the inside. We're able to fit the set in the ski locker and since they're plastic any water that gets on them won't hurt anything....

Baggo Boards

"Bags" is a summer tradition for us that started in college. I've built many sets with some custom features. My personal favorite is the bottle holders built into the leg.

Below are the plans with dimensions. Both the back and front legs are hinged so they fold up.
