Found this amusing and thought to share.

Recently we had a method of Spamming that was more inventive than others I've seen.

It happened in the Finance area so most will not have seen it.

It started with the first posting of a newly created account that asked a question about an unusual method of financing a home.

This was a bit suspicious to me even though the account had no web site in the profile and the posting had no info about any business whatever.

So I waited to see what might become of it.

Then a couple days later, another first posting from a new account showed up in that topic providing an answer to the question with a link to some business.

I guess this clown thinks he is really smart to come up with such a scheme. NOT funny

For giggles, I looked up the IPs. Both are in the same range leased to an ISP in Bhopal, India. weird

Both accounts are perma-banned. wink

Wow, you're sure staying on top of stuff like that, and we appreciate it. I noticed you jumped on SB's post about the moron asking for an increase in gas taxes. Only 3 or 4 posters got to call him names before it was closed. Sorry I missed that one, but it's probably for the better.

Thanks, Mike, for staying on top of things like that and keeping this board clean. (Thanks also for overlooking some of the crap I pull and allowing me to stay on board! thumb )

There is one on another forum that went on for awhile also. New guy asking about keeping his kids safe on the boat and the wife happy (DeepV's specialty! w) awhile later another new guy came along with a link to this really dumb safety tether thing. Gee how convenient.

Good Job, Mike

Freddie or Fannie? Oh, you mean the Govt?

About two months ago, I started getting a ton of those Nigerian scam emails - like 30+ a day. They all just started coming in all of a sudden one day. They are really lame, and I can't imagine people falling for these. However, even if someone were to believe one of these, the fact that they send out 20 of the same scams under different names, all arriving at the same time, should alert even the most gullable (nicest word I could think of) people.

Anudder scheme that I thought was rather underhanded. One of the sidebar adverts on a legit site offered a big discount for a well known restaurant chain (think it was TGI-Friday, but my memory is foggy). I'm a cheap sod, so I click on the link. It takes me to a page for some promotional outfit, which is now showing the official restaurant graphic. Appears completely legit. Of course you have to click again to sign up for your coupon. Coupon request requires your E-mail address. Being gullable I fill it in. Then have second thoughts (see my thoughts are kind of slow ....). So I back out of the coupon registration. Makes no difference, they grab my E-mail anyways. I now get a notice that I can cancel, and they will close my account within 30 min. Which I ask for. But too late as they have already filled standing orders for new E-mail address instantly. Note orderS (plural). Which was never mentioned in the original offer (of course). So I'm immediately getting E-mails from a dozen different outfits, who have absolutely nothing to do with that restaurant. Took at least a month for the E-mails to finally trickle away. Do not trust well known restaurants!!!

Kelly - Our Admin here at work, told me some time ago that, unless you KNOW the site to be legit, "opt-outs" or "cancels" are more often a ploy which legimitizes your email address to spammers. Unfortunately, best to just ignore/delete them.
