My brother worked as a manager of a grocery store in our home town. While he was out gather carts he saw a lady change her baby's diaper and toss the dirty one to the ground. She then went into the store to shop.
Brother walked over to the car, picked the diaper up and placed it under the drivers seat.
Oklahoma, August, 105 temp, car with the windows rolled up. You get the idea.
I thought about doing that to my former employer...hehehe
Ouch. I could see putting under the windshield wiper, but in the car, that's harsh.
I always ask myself, in a situation like this, does the guilty party really learn a lesson from such an action? My cynical side says no, they'll just get mad at what someone else did to them and keep right on.
Just to be clear, I'm not making a specific comment on any of the above situations, more of a philosophical musing.

In my experiences it's the cabbies that are the wierd ones. Until you've ridden in a cab while the cabbie is on the phone for a half hour saying "I'll talk to you,, yea, you got ol mutt between a rock and a hard spot... Yea baby, you know what I mean.. I'll talk ......." Blah blah blah. When I went to pay the bill I told him I'd have tipped higher, but he wouldn't actually talk dirty like she wanted him to.
I am with you on the anger thing. Like a bear protecting her cubs, sometimes you've got to snap. At the same time a call to the cab company is in order to reinforce the snap.

you did the right thing no matter what your feeling right now. some people just dont get it until someone gets in there face about things. they are just plain ignorant...
on an aside, I was out in the yard and heard this roar of an engine coming down our 45 mph road and witnessed a red porsche doing AT LEAST 100.. he went up about another mile and came back too. thats when I called the police to let them know.. thats when he came back a THIRD time!! As I am on the phone with 911 this SOB came back yet once more, so I told the dispatcher to hang on and I threw my 1/2 full beer can in its path and tagged the side of it. AND I got partial plate numbers to boot - he never saw me (moving to fast) and he headed west into the lake loop area. I told the dispatcher what I did and I could tell she was getting a chuckle out of it. they called me back and said that the officers knew who he was and that they stopped at his home to find a red porsche with a small dent and beer all over the side of it...they also said that the FATHER of the vehicle would be notified of the report. stupid kid..
sorry, didnt mean to hijack ya..
again, you did the right thing, now call the cab company and report him...

I've lost my cool more than I care to admit in front of my kid, never a proud moment. Seeing red and going tunnel vision is all too familiar. It really opened my eyes when I was working in my front yard with the kid one day and every car that went by, he'd yell, "SLOW DOWN!!!" I've learned to keep my mouth shut more often now.
If people are doing 55 in a 30 residential, chances are they are too ignorant to change anyway. And since we don't have dinosaurs anymore, we're stuck with them.

You got the red one I got the black one. But it was with an empty beer bottle. He hit it going so fast all we found was some on the glass and label.

Kudos to you for sharing your story with us. As a parent of two, I can tell you I would be surprised to find too many parents that have not lost it at some point.
Your story caused me to reflect a bit as a result and may try to tone myself down a bit as I know I have a tendency to find the end of my rope too quickly sometimes.
I personally don't think you should be too concerned about the impact on your kids, quite the opposite, I think it is a great opportunity to share with them now how you feel about it and use it as a life lesson for them.
I would be too concerned that someone would come back at a later time and inflict some sort of vindictive behavior or that the situation could become highly confrontational so I would not have stopped him, but would concur with a call to the cab co.
Good luck and go easy on yourself. The fact that it concerns you at all speaks volumes about you as a person and a parent.
In no way do I condone the actions of the driver, but when confronting these types you should always be aware that you have NO idea what type of nut you are dealing with. I think that we also need to be careful that when trying to get rid of the monster not to become the monster ourselves.As for your children we all lose it sometimes and I would sit down with your kids and explain that maybe you went overboard and are sorry for your bad behavior.
