Just curious how would all the boaters here in the north east (Jersey & up ) rate your summer boating.Weather, fuel etc.Rivers, lakes, ponds and the ocean all included.

A little too rainy early and too cold late. Not great season. At least the weather kept us from burning a lot of gas. That said, with gas so high, we were also very selective about which days we did take the boat out. Though there were fewer days on the boat than last year, all but one were excellent, so far.

Lousy. Too much rain, cold, barely 20 hours on the boat and I took a chunk out of the gelcoat last time out with my anchor. Didn't run in to anyone really any time we went out.

Always next year...

We've had a good year in spite of the weather. It seemed every day the forecast was for chance of storms, with some being severe. With forecasts like that, most days were spent watching the skies and staying close to home. We'll be lucky to hit 50 hrs this year. Fuel usage was down, and gas prices weren't as high as I feared they might be. Not a single problem with the boat all year except for my squeaky out drive that 2 squirts of silicon fixed. So a good year that is coming to an end way to fast. Hopefully we can get a few more weekends out before she comes home.

I'm not north-east but I'm going to rate it anyway:

Two words sum it up nicely - it sucked....

Lots of rain and cool temps, price of fuel was sky high (didn't burn much because of the rain anyway), and decent days were too windy.

I didn't even get out on the water during our trip to Newfoundland, where it rained 10 days out of the 12 we were there.

it was cold and wet early in the season, but generally nice after that. we had a major issue with vibration on the boat which hurt the pocketbook. 2 new props, a strut rebedding, and 3 weeks later, all was well. we still managed a 5 day trip up the hudson, even with high fuel prices. how would i rate all that.....................no one got hurt, so i'll give it a B- (but I'm an easy grader with low expectations).

Last year we burned about 140 gallons of fuel. This year maybe 35-40. I didn't even put the boat back at the dock after beginning of August vacation. I don't know if we'll hit the water again this year in it, like to, but not sure if feasible now.
Weather was cold and wet too often. It just wasn't an enjoyable summer for boating.

Where were you in Newfoundland? I went there three times in the last 12 months on business. Spent time in: St. Johns, Argentia, Clarendon, Gander, Grand Falls, Deer Lake, Corner Brook, Port Aux Basques, Gros Morne, and Harbor Breton. WAs a little depressing in February, but I was there during Memorial Day and it was quite lovely. Got to see my first iceberg in St. Johns.

We spent most of our time in Grates Cove, which is at the tip of the first peninsula north of St. John's. Grates cove is my wife's home town, and she still has plenty of family in the area.

A few pics that I took from some of the hiking trails around the town...

A pic of Bay De Verde warf, where you can see my FIL's trawler in the background (red and blue hull)

It is an absolutely great place to visit (anywhere in Newfoundland that is!)

Summer was ok at best due to same reasons as some others had posted........Too much darn rain. Now that the rain has stopped it seems to be getting cooler.
We went out on the boat a bit more than last year and I am happy with that since the wife is expecting and due the first week of October. She has been a trooper this year.
We made our first two trips to the ocean this year and loved it. Ohhhh well.....Next year there will be three of us and a new spin on boating!
