Heard on the news this AM that Ice was docked down by the Star of India, where I had shot the Princesss Mariana a couple weeks ago.

Thought I would go down and get some pictures. As of 2007, Ice was the 20th largest private yacht in the world at 295 feet. Owner is a Russian, Suleiman Kerimov, and the yacht is supposed to be one of the most environmentally friendly yachts ever built.

Article on the owner here.

Article about the yacht here.

In my mind the Princess Mariana was much "prettier" on the exterior, with a lot more detail work. The gray just does not work for me, although I wouldn't turn down the offer for a cruise on it.

Nice dining area

Detail on the stern

I talked to this crew member for a few seconds, said something like, "tough job, eh?"

His response:
"It's the best job in the world". No doubt.

Short name for a long boat!

Some oil-country bigwig is having THEE biggest private yacht built currently, something like 742' with a 76' beam! Assuming something that big would have 4 levels, there'll be nearly 5-1/4 ACRES of room on the thing!
eek

Where the hell ya park something like that!? wink (if THAT thing ever shows up Troop, I want pics!)

Boat is registered in George Town, which is Cayman Islands.

Cayman Island flag

Bermuda flag

Hmmm, maybe it is Bermuda

On 2nd thought, this is the best crop I could find. Darn flag has a turtle on it. Cayman Islands.

Very nice. It looks like the gang plank might retrac into the boat. Perhaps with the rails folded down or removed.

All this opulance makes me sick... why don't these rich bastards take some money and really help out those in need. How much food could 450 million dollars buy to help out on the global crisis. How much medicine could be bought for just the cost of the freking crew on some of these yachts.. Look at where MarkHB went earlier this year.. These kids are in dire straits and we marvel at some rich arses boat... gimmie a freakin' break gang!... How much freaking money DO YOU NEED!???? HOW BIG A BOAT DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE?

If all the real rich prix in the world pooled their resources, how long would it take to solve alot of the world hunger, medical, and poverty issues? Why wait for some primitive governmental agency to step in, when all the red tape and beaurocracy will only hinder the process, and the need not go to those deserving.

While I would never begrudge a person to enjoy the fruits of their labors, there has to come a time when we as a civilization says....."Whoa... dude... are you serious? Take a step outside your own bubble, and check the reality of 80% of the rest of the globe?"

BTW, troop, nice pics! smile

More billionaires in Moscow than any other city in the world. Bit of a change over the last 20 years or so, eh?
Only female billionaire? The wife of Moscow's mayor. Funny how that worked out.
