That's what I've read. I believe the idea is that 'at speed' the movement of water over the prop effectively seals the plug holes. Also re: slippage...I've read 10 to 15% are common numbers (edit: maybe not common but 'good' is a better description of that range). It looks like I'm over 20%. Maybe other's can chime in w/ what their slippage is at WOT, or what they think a "normal" range is. I can only assume my alum blades are deforming a bit under the pressure of top speed and flattening the effective pitch a bit.

The shop gave me a 14x19 and I'm going to run it this weekend. Going to play with the PVS plugs on the REV4 also.

Use a stopwatch for your tests. You will be surprised how sometimes what feels like a better launch is actually slower. Record time to plane and 0-30 times as well as top speed.

And pay attention to other handleing characteristics such as blowout in corners and turning in reverse. Some props are better at these but may not be the fastest. Also watch how much bow rise you get with each.

Have fun!

The shop gave me a Solas 4 blade 14.25x19 to try. Wot went from 4600 to 4950+ rpm's and speed went from 46mph to 52mph compared to the REV 4
14.65x19.

For the most part.I do get some porpoising at a certain trim setting now, but not where I usually run.It gets on plane quicker
from around nowake speed. When I throttle back quickly to avoid hitting a large boat wake and then accelerate hard it blowsout some in the turbulance. With 1/2 a load I am now running in the upper 10% of the wot range.Instead of the botton of the spec.I picked up 6 mph GPS so when I fill with fuel and add the rest of the family I should be mid range in the 4600-5000 rpm range and
about 50 mph. Solas does not offer a 20 pitch and a 21 would knock me out on the low side again. So,over all, I think I've found what I was looking for. Any input most welcome.
