I don't think that the bandwidth is there with ADSL connections, but I've been using cable internet for some time now and maybe ADSL has improved. At one time ADSL was faster than cable internet. Now with digital cable, it is the other way around.

Slingbox connects to your home tv and u can watch all you have on it. Other countries ie 1500ch is not a real deal unless someone connects to a slingbox from a HUGE satellite etc and runs his own service, don't believe him.

My kid has a Slingbox and really likes it. It cost about $150 and never another charge for it, monthly or otherwise.

Connects to your home tv remotely? So you can access your cable box or satelite box via the internet and get your same service? I thought that it a new service provider. I still think that bandwidth and picture quality will be an issue more often than not.

EDIT: BTW, I go out on the boat to get away from the T.V. and not to bring it with me.

I've got a slingbox and think it works good. You can also watch it on your cell phones like a treo. not on the iphone yet which is disappointing.

With a good signal it looks like watching video clips from news sites.

Geez, I always thought the newer technology was going to be the internet over the TV.

Why pay? DSL can handle streaming video just fine. The issue is not the DSL. In fact, cable internet can be slower than DSL, the slow downs are other areas. DSL is slower the farther you are from the fiber optic node, cable is slower the more subscribers on a loop.

As far as it goes, you can go to almost any network and find free television. For example, besides being able to watch NCIS, you can go to www.cbs.com and watch Have Gun-Will Travel, Perry Mason, Love Boat, and dozens of other shows, past and present. I don't have cable, so I watch Monk and Pysch on the internet.

This might be what you are thinking about. One time fee, $40 and says it works anywhere, providing you have an internet connection.

Satellite TV to PC/Laptop

Another Article

And yet another service available

Never tried this, so I don't know much about how well it works.
