So it seems my speedo is not working. First I checked for loose wires behind the dash. I found one. That must have been a coincidence because that didn't fix it. I found the small notch in the front of the outdrive, which I assume is the speedo tube, to be clogged w/ debris. Looks like I hit a stick at speed. I was able to dig out a bunch of wood fibers, but still the speedo no workie. Will I have to remove the drive to clean out the speedo tube, or can I try some compressed air?

Speedo Tube ?? idn

Maybe Pitot Tube like this?????

Should be located on the transom , not the outdrive. Check for integrity, clogging, or cracked tubeing.

Nope, nothing on transom like that. Where does the speedo get it's signal from if not from something like that? I have nothing on the transom of my boat except the outdrive.

My speedo stopped working, I had a small twig in one of the holes in my outdrive. A little air should blow the debris out.

Decked, you found the pickup in the drive's leading edge... you just haven't cleaned out all the stuff that's in there.

Or, the hose has come loose from the fitting on the front of the antiventilation plate. Tilt the drive all the way up, while the boat is on the trailer, lay down there and look at the front of the ventilation plate. The hose on a cross shaped fitting should be pushed firmly into a hole in the housing, and turned about 1/4 of a turn for as positive lock.

Thanks guys. On Holiday, that sounds just like what happened to me. I just didn't want to blow compressed air up there and blow the hose off the fitting.

Thanks Billy, I figured that was it.

Disconnect the tube from the speedometer side, and blow the air from there. You don't want to blow the debris further up the tube, you want to blow it out the drive.

That was what I was worried about.

Thanks.

I would get a small drill bit or small wire and gently twist to get it out. Chances are it is near the opening and may be lodged in there.
