The type of anchor that you use can have a larger effect than the length of rode. Some anchors are better suited to grass/weeds and others to mud/sand. If you have the wrong anchor you may never get it to set.

I used to try anchoring in around 20' of water with a ton of weeds and would drag 250' of rode. When you pulled in the anchor you would have about 200 pounds of weeds! Other boaters would anchor with plow style anchors without a problem.

Speaking of anchoring in weeds. Any ideas on a good weed anchor?

Love my XYZ anchor. So far it has set every time in mud or even in thick weeds. Any plow style will be better than fluke style for weeds.

Some say that the Delta anchors are a good compromise. Although they are somewhat more expensive than some of the cheaper fluke anchors, they are worth it if they work.

I believe they go for around $200 locally. If you google "Delta anchor" there are some good reviews on them.

On my 260da we have the stock delta style with windlass 30' chain and 150' rope but I don't sleep well with at night with out a backup and that is the large box anchor, no chain and 150' of rope. I will set them at 30' off the bow and I don't move at night. Each of us has had to learn and some the hard way. I like the box because it resets easy and is not to bad to retrieve. thumb
