Andy, I keep the bow strap attached with about a foot of slack. Once the boat is floating, I secure the truck and float the boat off.

The Suburban used to chatter the front wheels at the ramp. Actually got into a scary situation once because the front wheels were chattering and the truck was sliding back. I gave it some gas and pulled up, put it in 4wd and everything was fine.

FR, I guess maybe I should have clarified that once in 4wd it's all locked together. I don't trust Park in the transmission either. I do exactly as you describe and put the weight of the truck on the parking brake with the transmission as an emergency back up.

Almost my exact words in response to this same incident that was posted on Thehulltruth earlier this week.

Insurance companies are becoming "owners" of a lot of merchandise these days.

It's a sign of the times...

Geez, I just spent way too much time watching boat launching follies on Youtube. There's some funny and sad stuff out there.

It's easy to get caught up in laughing at these events and wonder what the dummy did wrong.... but in all honesty, I hope this doesn't ever happen to me.

Someone's insurance agent isn't going to be very happy as that looked like a very expensive motor home.
