This Boat Builder is in Boyne City, MI which is on Lake Charlavoix. I would love to quit my day job and move up there and work in the apprenticeship program they have. Check out the the craftsmanship on their custom boats (there are tons of pics when you click around the site) it just blows me away to see quality like that (I wouldn't even want to guess what some of those boats cost)

going thru the construction of "Gonzo" (Tahoe boat)...my gawd...! I'm surprised they don't have some guy in the back room with a dremel tool hand carving engines out of billet steel... bug_eyes

Whatever that boat cost, it kinda makes the price they charge for a 22-minute VEC-hulled boat seem like too much, no?
wink

That is unreal. I'm rather fond of the AlphaZ and Susan C.

I favor Blue Star myself.
Very nice work, no doubt. I put one of thier boats at number 4 on my "Bag of money falls from the sky" list.

I'm pretty sure there has been another thread on this company, however I'm simply flabberghasted at the level of craftsmanship. They hand fabricate nearly everything for the boat.

I looked through the string of pictures on Susan C and I can't imagine how many hours are in that boat - has to be between 10,000 and 20,000 at least. Looks like about 5 - 10 guys full time. At $50 an hour that would be 1/2 to $1 million in labor alone. ouch And that doesn't even include the mahogany, the stainless steel, the engines, the props, etc.

I'm betting they spent upwards of $1.5 million to get that boat on the water. Beautiful, yes, but wow, when you can buy an equivalent factory built boat for probably $300,000.
