I just joined this forum after finding it when I was doing research on the 1984 Cobalt CM9 that I bought about 3 weeks ago. I followed a thread to this forum and there were pictures of a Cobalt CM9 on a posting. The pics. showed the boat and its cool features: 5.7 mid-engine / jack shaft connected to an alpha I stern drive unit, Center mounted shift/throttle controls, front rumble seat etc. The pictures that were posted were actually pictures of the boat that I bought. I bought it in Muskegon, MI. I've had it out 4 days and I like it better each time I drive it. This is a seriously graceful boat that can turn as tight as a ski boat without cavitation. It leans more than an inboard ski boat, but it's very stable. With the left hand throttle (which is super smooth and accurate) combined with the power steering (with suicide knob), this boat is perfect for giving wild tube rides right to the edge(but not over). The throttle is in a position so that an experienced spotter in the rear facing seat can control the gas as he/she watches the tubes so the driver can simply steer. Anyways, I sold a pair of year old 3 seater jet skiis and bought this well cared for piece of maritime perfection (JMHO) and it cost almost 3k less than 1 of the SeaDoos. d d

I did an install on one of those here in Disco Bay quite a few years ago.

I "had" to do a demo ride in order to complete the installation.

It was a fun ride!

This one looks to be in fine shape...

Hey James!

Just a simple GPS/NAV system.

It was for a neighbor.

The boat has since left...

Thought maybe you were a professional stereo installer and was going to see if you wanted some work.

The links that LL found above show the pictures of my boat. THe rumble seat in front is not too hard to get to, there is the teak foot well on each side, and you can hold the windshield frame for support. Once in the seat, 1-2 adults or 1-3 kids are in for a very unique and comfortable ride. Tons of foot room, nice padded seat, just your head and shoulders are exposed to the wind, and the stereo speakers fill the cavity with music nicely if you want. Also there is almost no engine noise. I rode up there only once, I put my feet up into the point of the bow and spread my arms out above the deck. With the boat on plane I felt like a Pelican cruising 5 feet above above the breakers.

I am planning on reconfiguring the passenger seat so that it can swivel to be front facing. I will have to recontour the seat back so that it is symetrical, and figure a way so that I can slide the seat both front/back and side/side (maybe 2 slider mechanisms stacked perpendicular and then mounted on a pedistal)

I am just finishing up switching the trailer from a roller type to a bunk typew/ center rollers. I have as much fun working on it as I do running it. In the fall I will be dealing with replacing the plywood floor. I'll do the seat thing once I've got a solid floor to deal with.

The 350 / 260hp merc runs like a top and the stern drive unit is a remanufactured replacement unit that the dealer put on when they took the boat in. The Jack shaft is nothing more than an automotive drive shaft w/ u-joints (3.5 inches in dia. or so) when I need to deal with that, I'll just match up automotive u-joints, and I can get a machine shop to fabricate a shaft to my specs. (I would bet cobalt doesn't carry that part anymore, and I wouldn't find it in a mercruiser pub. either)

Rambling--I'll stop

Congrats on the new to you boat. LL is very resourceful when finding old links. I bet Hall's was as happy to sell the boat, as you were to get it. They have not sold many new or used boats this year, I wonder how they are able to survive.

Enjoy your boating !

I will be going up to Torch Lake on the weekend of Sept. 6/7 and will make sure to get a bunch of pictures. Torch Lake has some of the clearest/bluest water you'll ever see. Anyone that's been there knows what I mean, It's very unique for an inland lake. Very deep, big, and cold below 5 feet deep. I'll get some action shots of my daughter and friends flying off the tubes (they claim that they can't be bounced off by waves)

I'll also try to get some nice pictures of the boat in action.

Can someone point me to where to check on (or just explain) how to get a picture from my computer onto a posting like this so that it displays below the writing?

KurtK, I never congratulated you on the boat.
Congrats on finding a unique, extremely well-cared for boat thumb

KennyK posted a link with great info.

Figured I would go a little deeper on image posting...
There are many posts here about image posting.
When I searched the topic, many seemed overcomplicated (for my short attention span anyway)

Here are the basics – if you need more details, just ask, many will answer.

1. Create a folder on your computer; “C:/picture” is an example folder location/name

2. Transfer (upload) the pics from your digital camera to the C:/picture folder

3. Create an account on a free image hosting site.
A web search will find many image hosting sites.
My example is http://photobucket.com/ .
I have no affiliation with photobucket aside from good service and ease of use.
(creating a profile on an image hosting site isn’t any harder than creating a babc profile)

4. When the account is created, follow the steps in red.

Along with pasting the IMG Code text link in a new post or reply,
you can also paste the IMG link in your sig block profile.
That image will come up on every post.

I may be wrong, but I think the sig block pics are expected to be a certain size
(small, per board rules).

Have fun boating & posting pics.
