Not that anyone's noticed, but I haven't had any internet at the boat for about 10 days. Mark's had wireless internet service out here for years, but his latest provider called it quits and that was that. He's been out of town so new service is still several days away...
We have DSL at work, but at the house I've been stuck with Net Zero dialup because I just haven't wanted to spend nearly 100 bucks a month for internet when we're only there during winter months. That's been costing $10 plus the $26 for the phone line.
The wife's had a Cricket phone for a couple of years now (good thing too, her phone's logged over 1100 HOURS so far!) and while the service isn't as widespread as others, her phone works great otherwise...
Anyway, been noticing that Cricket is offering high-speed wireless internet service, and when bundled with their unlimited phone service (which the wife has), it's only $35 a month...
Well, I went & got one, and I am extremely pleased with it! Run the software, plug it in, and I got internet! "High speed" will be debatable with some folks, it's DL speed is in the 640k range, but when you're used to 24k at home and 'maybe I have internet, maybe I don't' at the boat (we're BARELY in router range), this is GREAT! And unlike normal DSL where you have to pay for the phone line, the DSL service ON the line, AND pay an ISP for a DSL connection, my total bill we be $45 a month ($35 plus $5 optional insurance plus taxes & such). Up front cost was $148 I think is was, but there's a $60 rebate I need to mail in. There ARE restrictions, but none that will affect me...
First thing I'm going do when I'm done here on BABC is cancel my home phone and Net Zero!
