Hey guys! My trip to Summersville lake WV was awesome! Pics will be coming soon. However, in the last five minutes of my trip I managed to hit the prop on a rock. I was getting ready to put the boat on the trailer and I got closer to shore than I realized. When I put the shifter in gear I heard thud thud thud and I shut the motor off. (Not stalled, I shut it off) My question is do you think it hit hard enough to damage the drive? All it did to the prop was take 1/4" gouges out of 2 of the blades and made the third one a bit jagged on the end. The shaft looks like it is turning true and I dont feel any roughness when I turn the shaft by hand. I dropped the prop off at the prop shop on the way home for repair. Will cost me around 70.00 bucks. Oopps.

Sounds like the prop took the impact. Assume its aluminum? Sometimes such an impact will cause a propshaft seal to start leaking but if you didnt notice any drive oil when you removed the prop, chances are no harm no foul.

If it's an aluminum prop make sure that the rubber hub has been replaced or it will more than likely spin if you give it a lot of throttle or under a load.

yep, its an aluminum prop. I havent looked at the drive since we came back but Ill keep an eye out for an oil leak. I have green drive oil and green propshaft grease so Ill have to clean the shaft off to watch for leaks. I hope it will be ok. Theres not enough time left in the summer for mechanical downtime.

I have the flo torq style insert. I dosent look deformed at all. I guess I should get one to have on hand just in case. I would assume that the insert would be rounded and chewed up if it was spun out? Never have had this happen before.

The Delrin inserts do not always look deformed, however they are very tough. Still, for $35.00 I guess it's peace of mind. I have seen more that spun that looked fine than ones that were chewed up.

It is doubtful that you did any damage at all other than ding the prop. And the insert is most likely fine as well, but cheap enough to keep a spare.

Glad you had a good trip and that you hit the rock on the last day, not the first
