Yep. And it is flush or surface mount. It has the iPod connector on the rear, so it just extends the connection when you fully insert the iPod.

Finally got a couple before and after pics - guage illumination is hard to capture!

This first pic has the guage illumination cranked all the way up, the led light bars are at this point wrapped in red, and the Clarion head unit is not turned on.



This next pic is with the illumination cranked down to comfortable levels using the 'dimmer'. Again, head unit off.



In this last, the head unit is turned on.



The light from the head unit display window reminds me of a two 'D' cell flash light.

Back on topic, you can buy a dimmer for your instrument lights at West Marine. Several different models:

Go to http://www.westmarine.com/ and search on "dimmer".

Not as much fun as designing your own perhaps, but it's "plug and play" and I'll bet they last longer in a marine environment than something from Radio Shack.
