About 2 years ago I bought a Proview 19" widescreen monitor that takes a 1440 x 900 resolution setting. Naturally, 99.9% of computers have no such setting. My son just gave me a refurbished IBM thinkcentre desktop for the house, with a new copy of XP pro, it has Pentium 4, 1/2 gig of ram and an Intel 82865G graphics card. It has about a half million different resolution settings, but of course, no 1440 x 900. I spent half of last night searching the net for answers, but didn't find much. I downloaded the latest driver the Intel website had (dated 2005) but that didn't help...The only mention on their website about 1440x monitors is a fix for Vista, nothing for XP or older. I found some talk about a "powerstrip"(?), which seems to be used by smarter computer geniuses than me to change graphic driver values for custom resolution settings, but I couldn't find much other info other than 'it exists'...

Anyway, I was able to upgrade my older computer (before a total reformat and lost the upgrade) and at the correct resolution the monitor is fantastic! But at every resolution option on the new computer everything's fuzzy at best, and photo's are either squashed too narrow or stretched out...

Anyone know where the magic website is for a fix? wink

Not familiar with your particular machine, but in the past I've had similar problems and been able to download an enhanced video driver that has almost unlimited settings - that particular card was Nvidia, however.

I'd do a search on Intel video driver and see what comes up.

i had a similar problem years ago. it was never perfect, but the best i was able to get it was by doing the following:

cntrl panal, display, settings, advanced, dpi settings, custom

and then play with the scale to see if it helps.

Indy, Nvidia was what I was able to upgrade the first time...

And---I HAVE a Proview, and DON'T HAVE a couple hundred bucks at the moment, so.....

Well, this here work computer has an intel graphics card too, it's an 82845G rather than the 82865G on the one at home...so for kicks I downloaded the newest graphics accelerator driver for THIS computer---

With the new driver I DID pick up another res setting, 1792 x 1344 (kinda off the wall?) in 2 refresh rates, but still no 1440 x 900. Also, this driver is dated 2005 (is it to much to ask of Intel and others to update things once in awhile??)

FR:

Your video card (or video software since you probably have integrated) should be PnP...plug and play. The monitor SHOULD send a signal to the driver with information on what it's native resolution is. The video card should accommodate.

I does not sound like plug and play is working. This is generally a problem on cheaper monitors. I had a off-brand 19" widescreen last Fall that I sold because it had the same problem you have.

Are you using VGA or DVI?

You can pick a new DVI video card up for cheap money. Check newegg.

Amazon a new DVI cable.

Switch to DVI. It should HELP with your problem and sets you up for the future.

That's my suggestion.

Thanks Rod, and it's VGA---AND, it's a cheap monitor (came with no software either), although I've seen DELL's name on them too... This sucks, because the display is as crisp and colorful as I've seen when it's 'correct'!

You should have a DVI port, correct?
