Hello SW Michiganders! I'll be in South Haven a few times this month, hopefully with boat-in-tow. Besides the big lake, any other lakes within an hour or so drive that anyone would recommend for watersports?

Other don't miss opportunities in the area?
Anyone know of a place to go offroading?

Thanx.

If the big lake is calm you can run north to Saugatuck (probably 30-40 min by water). They have a nice downtown shopping area and some very cool bars/resturants on the water. Great boaters town. Another 15 min north brings you to Holland which has Lake Macatawa for water sports, but it's not nearly as "boater friendly".

And if you continue north of Holland for 20 more miles, you'll be in Grand Haven, which some say is the Michigan hot spot for boating on Lake Michigan.

There is probably some debate on this, but if I have my geography correct, I think that "Michigan's Gold Coast" is from Holland to the south to White Lake to the north. But some include New Buffalo, St. Joe/Benton Harbor, and Saugatuck to the south, and areas to the north of White Lake as well to the definition.

Not a lot of inland lakes near South Haven. We did spend a week at a cabin on Round Lake once - maybe 15 miles east of South Haven. But it is a fairly small lake.

I think the Silver Lake area has some dune offroading places, but I am not sure where else.

Yep, Silver Lake is one of a few places in the country where you can offroad on sand dunes. The lake is nice as well, it's very cool to beach the boat on a sand dune. It's a bit north of South Haven, however.

Also, check this website for off roading in MI.
