Solas, is a prop maker that started out making props for his government (Taiwan). Next, Solas started making stuff for PWCs, props for 2 cycle O/Bs, and somewhat recently for 4 stroke O/Bs and I/Os that use a WOT 5,000 to 6,000 top rpm type range as well as impellers (the internal “screw prop” of a jet) up to perhaps 10,000 – 11,000 rpm water jets, jet grates, and some other small parts.

Solas started around 1985 and still operates from Taiwan today. The ship from their HQ and factory there to around 100 distributors almost work wide, including the USA.

It’s important to note, that Dr. Y. J. Lin (the founder of Solas) holds a Doctorate. And he was a teacher prior to starting making propellers for his local government. He now identifies himself with the nickname of Dr. Solas.

Back in 1985, Solas started making navy boat props. By 1988, Dr. Solas and his company got a foothold in the PWC marketplace. It was in 1992 that Solas began making props for two-cycle O/Bs. By 1996, they added Aluminum propellers. Along about this time, the company noted that some I/O drives splines (groves) and that the shaft as well as bullet (nose cone) diameters matched up with the O/B prop shapes and sizes, so they got into showing which props went by those specs and thus selected aspects of the I/O market for props were included.

Today they make several designs; besides their Lexor, HR Titan 3, Titan, New Saturn and Rubex HR 4 series, they offer their “speed” prop, Scorpion for high Hp/ light boats that need bow lift, and their HR Titan 4 for extra stern lift.

While one may be into the PWC side of their web site, others want to go to their Propeller side. Same web address…

…just wait about 30 seconds after the opening photo montage ends with…”just a dream”, right now and then click on the side that you want to view.

Maybe I am wrong. I thought the info above was from the company. But is there any good info on R&D, etcetera from Solas?

Since O/Bs are perhaps 3 to 5 times the I/O market in all the areas they serve, O/Bs and PWC (their longest mfg. line by history)sorry, the telephone... is where they may continue to concentrate.

I do not get sense that they do much to help via the corporate web site.

Yeah, I've noticed that. Lots of flash, though.

It's at least a nice design, easy to navigate, and has considerable amount of product information...

Do respect the fitment suggestions, though, -- I think it needs higher O/B Hp.
