can it be? Both skies are 67" and one is rated for "under 120 pounds" and the other "over 110 pounds".

Under 120 pounds

Over 110 pounds

I like the "under 120" skies as I could have them shipped to my house for just over $100. They look wider and seems like it should be able to handler a heavier skier as well. I am looking for a first set of cheap skies to keep on our boat. I used to ski when I was a kid and felt this would be a good affordable way to get back into the sport as well as having a combo set on the boat for the casual guest.

Am I missing something here? idn

Skis! rofl

Seriously though, if you are thinking of buying at the store, you might not have a choice. Ours was severly limited on water goods the other day. I got a set of connelly wide bodies. Good for everyone that doesn't know how to ski.

IMO they messed up the written copy; the blue ones pic looks a little funky too. From the description the skis are identical except for the bindings. No way are 67" wide body skis for under 120 lbs only...over 110 lbs makes much more sense. For some reason I don't see that model on the HO Sports website, but that is how they are described here too...110 and up.

However they are described, the skis in your first link look better.
Slightly wider and much nicer bindings.

I have been eyeing the pair in your first link at the Academy by my house. I'm holding off until they have their 30% off sale though (shoudl be next week).

These combos are pretty much just like the slalom that I used to ski on. Nice and wide, with good bindings. I'm geting them because my parents have been itching to get back up on skis (after 20 years off) and the ones I currently have are quite a bit narrower.

I think that these will be a great starter pair for you. If you ever get the itch to slalom, the single ski in this set is a great one to learn on as well.

Thanks for the opinions guys...so what does:

Helix bindings with 1-piece EVA foam (fits 2 - 7)

Does the "fits 2 - 7" mean that the bindings only fit shoe sizes 2 - 7 idn

Thanks

Ooooh....good catch, I take back my no way under 120 lb comment!...sorry. Typically combos come with a very adjustable "one size fits all" binding but maybe this has a kids or ladies binding on it. Slalom binding sizes are often labeled S, M, L, XL etc and its typical to list a regular shoe size range that it will fit such as 10-12. I've seen some combos skis labeled this way as well I guess. If it really is size 2-7 and not a typo then I still question why they would be on 67" skis...seems 65, 63 or smaller would be more typical. I've never seen a binding range go down to size 2.

I definitely wouldn't order w/o a phone call now and even then the chances of really finding out are probably small. It would explain the deep discount though!

EDIT: From memory and the pics (check here ) I believe the "one-piece" refers to not having the 2 piece adjustable length like typical combo bindings had. You know, where you pinch two levers and slide the heel back and forth. This is one piece, but the forefoot overlay is split and put your heel to the back and then you wrap the split pieces over your forefoot and secure w/ velcro. Seems like a neat idea to hold your foot pretty secure, but I haven't tried it.

Actually I found a better picture that shows it clearly:

The size chart in the link above doesn't match up at all w/ the ad...they show XXS 2-3 or S 6-7 among others. I'm also surprised by the the tight shoe size ranges for this binding on the website.

I was in Dick's today looking for a stopwatch and wandered over to the watersports section. They had the blue skis linked above. They looked just like the red ones in the WD's link above. I think the pic in the link to the blue ones is just messed up and stretched. They had the Eclipse bindings. I couldn't find a size imprint but since the HO website only lists Mini and Standard as sizes they must have been Standard size.

I'm a 10 1/2 - 11 and they fit me well. I was actually surprised how secure they felt. The only concern I would have is the stitching attaching the forefoot velcro strap. The rtp was adjustable as well and had a velcro strap.

BTW, I picked up a couple 50 - 90 lb neoprene life vests for the kids marked down to $23 something a piece. I don't particularly care for the extra weight of neoprene personally, but the kids spend a lot of time swimming and I'm thinking they will ride up less and be more comfortable in the water. Having extras I won't need to borrow a vest from the neighbors now when we have guests. These were branded "DBX" and were supposedly $50 originally, but next door Target had the absolutely identical vests branded "Speedo" for about $26.

AT...thanks for all the research. I think it is better to maybe put my hands on something before I buy. I really like those skis though. I called Dick's Customer Service and they were not much help at all. I will keep you all updated as to what I find.
