Pickups were split between phallic symbols and blue collar he-men, Toyotas were practical. The guys they wanted to eventually marry after they had enough of the bad boys. Mercedes meant the gal had hit the jackpot. Money and practical.

Ever wonder why you see a young, smokin' hot chic on the arm of an older, overwieght balding man? (If you haven't seen such a thing, PM me and I'll send you some of my wedding pics. ) Its not necessarily the car, but rather an outward symbol that he can provide for her and her offspring. Pure Darwin and its hard wired into the fairer sex brain. Occurs at a subconcious level.
