Rather than continue on this post, I am starting a new one in the correct section. Any thoughts on going with this prop, knowing the specifics of my previous post. Click the picture for more information.

I've got some intrest in adding both to mine. Tabs and ss prop. We boat mostly at low elevations and have a 14.25 x 21 3 blade alum and would really like to upgrade to ss. I've checked out other simular boats that are at shows and such and found them now comming with 14 x 20 alum 4 blade. I want to make the jump but don't have a prop supplier willing to allow testing to optimize performance and i don't have the crystal ball to determine whats best. It seems your having simular issues.

Yup. But you just gave me a thought. I am going to call the shop near here that does do that very thing. The only problem is that they will cost me maybe $150 more.

I looked on your other thread but could not find your WOT etc.

Just from my own experience going down from a 21 to a 19 in the same brand and model of prop was not alot of difference. The main difference I noticed was the fuel burn at cruise.

I also bought mine for watersports and while it helped a little with time to plane, it was not enough. I wished I had bought a four or five blade and possibly gone down another pitch. That's where it gets tricky because the pitch numbers may not cross over exactly when you change styles of prop. Makes it tough to know if a 17 is too much.

If I was to do it again,(and I will), I would use a prop shop so I could test a couple models.

I know with the right prop and some tabs you will think you have a new boat.

prober:

WOT ~4500 at ~48mph GPS. But I don't go WOT at top speed. Usually under 30mph to 35mph. Going down from 19p to 17p and to 4-blade at the same time.

Capn Morgan:
Solas 14x17 4-blade was recommended to me by Newport Boats, the selling dealer.

I wish. They just sell it I guess. That's why I'm asking here if it is a decent brand.

I, for one, am bothered that the same part number seems to be sold for both O/Bs and I/Os. Two different torque curves usually.

Why not see if they take off whatever Sea Ray ships with a new boat and subtitute a Solas before they deliver it. Maybe you could buy the Merc take off prop.

I think that they have the same prop that I have now on the 2008 SD200?

So, drop down or up a size in Sea Ray to change the specs. By the way, I was just kidding...I do not think that they would take off a Merc prop off a new Sea Ray and put on a Solas. Sorry for my humor.
