Topic Drift? Sorry. Trying to solve a problem here. Tabs are in the mix for next winter's improvements.

I upgraded to a four blade SS from a 3 blade AL. Quicker planing, and lower planing speeds for sure. The biggest attribute is the prop blow out in turns. It was bad with the blade unless you trimmed fully down, with the 4 blade it is relatively non-existant.

If you do not want to spend much, try gettting a good prop shop to drill small holes at the base of each blade of a prop. It closely duplicates Merc's PVS system. The exhaust goes out thur the holes at low speeds and then the force of the exhaust inside and the pressure of the water flowing by outside, makes the exhaust flow thru the hub at speed. That "slips" the prop at low speed letting the engine get into its close to peak torque rpm quicker. Improves hole shot, not lower the speed on plane.

Factory equipped 1.62 gears and SS Mercury Vengance 14x19 for lowland applications. Thinking of getting a 14x17 Mercury Vengance for altitude above 3000 feet? The 14x17 Al was a refurbed that I picked up cheap from the local prop shop at their recommendation for running at altitude.

Not you, me. I'm drifting my own topic. Maybe it should have a more broad scope in the title and be in "engines, drives and props"?

Props yes, IMO. Tabs, here, IMO. But that stuff is usually a moderator item, IMO.

So if I go to 4 blade SS, what is the pitch conversion from 3 blade for approximatelly equal thrust?
