You should see my 64 bit machine at work. It runs XP but when I went from 32 to 64 bit, processor intensive tasks were cut by 75% I bet. The quad core processor and faster front side bus helped too no doubt. I'm not as impressed with the graphics but that may be the video card and the newer version of the CAD software I use. The open GL is a video memory hog which is why we upgraded in the first place.

I do like the graphics on my HP with vista on it. Video and pictures look great and games as well. HPs LCD is to notch IMO.

Well, after considerable thought, I ended up picking up the HP laptop (with Vista Home Premium on it) a little while ago. After checking with several folks, it appears that most of my software will work on Vista.

AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 at 2.0GHz, 200G HD, 3G SDRAM, 3.5 hour battery, integrated webcam/mic, nVidia GeForce 7150M graphics, entertainment remote control, etc

I think I got a decent deal on it. Here's hoping it runs as well as it looks.

Why does one have to toggle between 5 windows to control NETWORK settings?
Shoot, if you think that is bad you should see Win2000. Not only are there 5 separate pages, the help info is also scattered over 5 different topics! At least Vista made some token effort to consolidate the help info. I know because I've been trying to lash a laptop to my desktop tower in an ethernet peer-to-peer deal. Of course it didn't help any at all that the boy genius at Walmart insisted on selling me a standard ethernet patch cord instead of the crossover I asked him for! Grrrrr mad (I hate kids, thank God I never was one myself)

I may be completely wrong, but for a long time my opinion has been that MS felt obligated to drive the entire industry with its software - with every new release of windows, users needed more hard drive, more memory, faster processing - which drove PC sales.

I think the problem is that now people don't need all that extra power with the same old applications. Until new applications are developed - with new, previously unknown features - something that integrates powerpoint, youtube, the web into an instant training application - for example, you really don't need additional power.

Looks like MS is about ready to relegate Vista to the binary scrapheap. XP has been extended, possibly close to the release of Windows 7.
