Do any of you carry a first aid kit for the pets on your boat? What do you have in it?

3 of my 4 pooches are squish-noses and cannot take heat,
one of my pugs overheated once on a 3-block walk(!) in my desert like town and my vet who is next door showed me how to cool them down safely,

he sprayed rubbing alcohol on her feet, which since it evaporates quickly leached heat from her,
and then he poured cool water on her back (NOT ice water as he said people have an inkling to do),

so with my squish-noses, on long outings i now carry clear alcohol with me, it also serves other purposes
( and no, knuckleheads, i don't mean a good IPA beer ho )

Our bulldog doesn't go out on our boat. But we do have the regular first aid kit in the motorhome. The only added thing we make sure we have for him is hydrogen peroxide as he likes to swallow things whole (like ping-pong balls). It's the quickest and safest way to make him toss it back up.

My friends recently lost a dog unexpectedly and the most likely diagnoses was heat stroke. Since we train in hot weather, I did a little research, and one of the things I learned was to spray the arm pits (front and back) and belly first, as the blood vessels are closest to the surface there. Also to give electrolytes (not too cold, gatorade or pediolyte). I have heard of a number of dogs getting heat stroke while swimming, which really opened my eyes.

We had to give one of our poodles hydrogen peroxide when he ate a fatal dose of dark chocolate, so that is definitely on my last as well.

I found a few sites that have lists that look good to me:

I will probably make up a kit this week before heading out to Raystown, so if anyone has more good ideas, keep them coming!

Crazy Glue can help with cuts...used it on myself a couple weeks ago.

Beats stitches!
