If I was at that game with kids, I'd demand my money back. The pitcher that threw the ball into the crowd should be banned for LIFE!

The pitcher who threw the ball into the opposing teams dugout needs to be banned for the season IMO.

I took my kids to a minor league hockey game that went like that one time. 4 guys got suspended for the season. It was a mess.

Never been to a hockey game since.

... The out of control brawl lasted 10 minutes and resulted in 15 ejections. But since that didn't leave enough players to continue the game without putting pitchers in the outfield the umpires were instructed by Midwest League President George Spelius reverse the ejections and resume play. ...

unbelievable !!
forget about teaching the children watching the game about fair play,
if you can't keep on selling hotdogs then get all the fighters back in the game !

That is awful...like others have said there are a ton of kids that attend those games as they are still a nice affordable place to take a family.

Well one mystery has been solved. We now know why the pitcher is in the minors...he can't even hit the dugout from 30 feet away idn

That's what the local sports station guys were saying. Whether the guy got suspended indefinately or not, if he missed the dugout, his career as a pitcher probably wasn't going past Single A!

Since he has been charged with a felony, the INS may review his work Visa. He could be not allowed back in the country.
Now we all know he'll plead to a reduced misdemeanor, so INS won't really bother.
I took a girl to an ECHL game in Peoria about 7 years ago, cause she didn't want to go to the Chiefs' game. Well, the hockey game was a playoff, so they didn't fight and she was disappointed. That day, a large brawl happened at home plate of the Chiefs' game, involving now major leager Chris Duncan. I called her and said "I told you baseball is exciting!"

Here's the article about the final punishments:

PEORIA — The Midwest League officially closed the book on the July 24 brawl between the Peoria Chiefs and the Dayton Dragons on Friday.

Eight members of the Chiefs were suspended for their parts in the incident, and all team members involved were fined.

"We went by the report by what the umpires said and the (videos)," MWL president George Spelius said. "As I looked at it, there were more guys that were active swinging, so I have different guys that get different suspensions."

The most severe penalty went to pitcher Julio Castillo, who was suspended 60 days and fined $1,000.

Castillo is seen on one video winding up and throwing a ball in the direction of the Dayton dugout. It missed the dugout and struck a fan.

Castillo was arrested and charged with felonious assault. On Friday, Castillo waived his right to a preliminary hearing, and the case was sent to a Dayton, Ohio, grand jury.

Then-interim manager Carmelo Martinez was suspended for 20 days and fined $1,500. Martinez, the Chicago Cubs Latin American field director, was filling in for Ryne Sandberg, who was attending the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

Outfielders Brandon Guyer and Cliff Andersen, pitchers Audy Santana and Steve Vento, catcher Mario Mercedes and infielder Jovan Rosa were suspended three games each and fined $150.

"It seems to follow suit with what (Spelius) has done in the past," Chiefs president Rocky Vonachen said. "It's along the lines of what we were expecting."

Dayton manager Donnie Scott, outfielders Justin Reed and Denis Phipps, pitchers Jeff Jeffords, Jeremy Horst, Luis Montana and Henry Arias, catcher Devin Mesoraco and infielder Kevyn Feiner were suspended three games each and fined.

"Being league president 22 years, challenging things come up and I try to make best decision that I can," Spelius said. "I think I did a pretty good job."

Because of the number of players involved, each club is able to determine when the suspensions will be served.

Three of the Peoria position players - Rosa, Guyer and Andersen - were in the lineup for Friday's game with South Bend.

"As a team, it's something we'll deal with," Sandberg said. "It all goes with the territory. There are lessons to be learned, and this is the final lesson here."

The remaining Chiefs players were fined a total of $1,200.

The $4,600 total in fines was the most ever assessed the team. The Chiefs and their players were fined $3,950 in May 2002 for a fight against Quad Cities. That also marked the last time any Chiefs players were suspended for an on-field incident.

Now that the suspensions have come down, the Chiefs hope that the incident is behind them.

"It's something we wish never happened, and everyone involved wish never happened," Vonachen said. "Now, let's move on."
