I swear, if they ever catch the a holes that make this s*** I will stand in line to take a punch!!!

its called "antivirus xp 2008" and it kicked my puters a**!! for better then a week! some rogue deal that takes over your hard drive and wont let you do ANYTHING on your computer. it is supposed to trick you into buying its anti-viral BS but it in itself is the virus!!!
I never "bought" it but rather tried to get rid of it right away but it wouldnt let me. I had to go through hours of deleting and restoring files to get it out of my system.
you get it by downloading a video, music codec in the form of a .dll file, this is by far the biggest piece of crap that I have ever had on my system!!

A few years ago I'm pretty sure Norton Antivirus would do the same thing. When you didn't upgrade it, it would slow your system to a crawl. That's why I will never buy Norton or anything Symantec again.

I've had good luck using Windows Restore for problems like you describe - you just have to make sure it is turned on. Go to control panel, system, system restore tab.

When you have a problem, just go back to a known good system configuration date.

I recently got this virus. Did not download ANYTHING! I was using my computer. Stopped using it. Came back and it was there. Total mess. You have to go through all these steps to delete it from your registry. It is PIA!!!

Here is the story on the virus, you are right, those people should be shot.

Windows 2000 doesnt support system restore...

I guess there is a program from malwarebytes.com that you can get to remove it and others.
I will download it tonight to be sure I got everything.

One thing I do that might help someone. Whenever I get those pop-up boxes I never click the "ok" or "decline" button...I click the window "x" to close the box. If, as is sometimes the case, the only option to close the box appears to be to click the "ok" button I go to the Task Manager (ctrl/alt/detete or right-click on the task bar) and under the "Applications" tab I select it and then click the "End Task" button. Sometimes I have to "End Task" all of my open browsers, but that's better than download a virus by mistake.
