I was helping a buddy shop for boats....did not want Cobalt. He's in love with the Crownline 220.

Did not see any posts on this boat...any issues?

Looks like the 22 feet includes the swim platform...does not seem as big inside as other 22 footers?

In my view Crownline designs are all about comfort and style. Not utility. Regardless of label issues, I think that 220 is the nicest design of all the Crownline bowriders. Here is a link to some photos, with a few comments -

Looks alot like my 21SS. I would suggest to get a bigger motor than that 5.0 MPI.

I really like the Crownline that I bought last year and havn't had any major issues with it.

Just curious. Why does you friend not want a Cobalt? Is it the prices?

I assume price is the reason for not getting the cobalt. Looking at the price of the crownline, I don't see them as that far apart.

The local Crownline dealer was knocking about 30% off list posted right on the side of the boat when I looked at them. Definitely seemed like nice boats and we were leaning towards the 21SS, but we got smart and found a used boat

Seems that Crownline puts more emphasis on the luxury side than the sport side when compared to other, although the sportiness was definitely there, just a little more subdued in my opinion.

You and I are on the same page TimBob. I'd have a hard time springing for the big bucks for a new boat, even at the big discounts being given, knowing that it's going to depreciate like a rock in the first three years.

The big discounts on the new boat prices is having the same effect on used boat prices. As the new ones come down it forces the 1-2 year old boats down by about the same amount. That forces the 3-4 year old boat prices down, and the ripple effect goes on and on.

The next year or so might be a good time to be a buyer if you're in the position to do it. It will be interesting to see what the discounts are at the winter boat shows.

SB, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the dealers ordering fewer new model boats for their inventories, relying on placing more and more special orders as customers want their boats equipped a certain way?

We have not had any issues with our Crownline 226LS. This will be our third season with it and we have over 120 hours on the meter.

Aren't Crownlines made in Benton Illinois? I remember reading that they are built by the guys who used to build Celebrity boats back in the 90's before they sold it to Brunswick....Celebrity built great boats in the 80's and 90's, heavy hulls,

West Frankfort, same family. Crownlines are heavy hulls, not as fast with comparable sizes and power, but ride nicely.

yep...cobalt too. I went from an old celebrity to a cobalt due to heavy hulls. They may not be as fast, but they ride like much larger boats.

Only thing I did right on my new boat was to get an engine that could move the heavier hull....the 4.3 in my celebrity just couldnt move the weight.

After reading this thread, it answers a question that I was going to post. I was a little disappointed on my WOT speed after I got my true GPS MPH. It tops off at about 42 MPH with my 5.0 220 HP Merc. The heavier hull makes sence and I feel all warm and fuzzy now.

Oh, by the way. I was at 926 ft. above see level, about 75% humidity, mid 90's Just my wife and I in the boat and about 30 gals. of feul. Also had the bimini top up riding on glass at TRL.

Had to put as many of the varibles out there.

GPS is a big disappointment for a lot of boaters... However that does seem low for that boat. You should be closer to upper forties. I can reach 51 GPS with mine.

Do you have a BIII or an Alpha?
