Hmmmm, old 55' Chris Craft? Wood Hull? Bow snapped off in 5' waves?

Sounds like it was in about the same condition as the one Seabuddy had posted the pics of that the guy was going to restore. Lots of dry rot hidden in areas below nicely finished wood could lead to that happening.

I thought of the same thing. Looked like a similar boat. That would be real scary. You know you're going down if you lose the bow of the boat. One smart thing is the guy remembered to get life jackets on immediately.

Thumbs up for the Captain of the See Ray. Rescued the people in the water and humble as to not be on the news!

What puzzles me is that the people with the video camera just laid off and took video. WTF? I'd be thinking "rescue".

The report said the called 911. What else could they do? The boat was clearly a good distance off shore. We visited that lighthouse this summer, there's nothing around it but sand.

Yes, it seems from the report that they were on land, not in a boat. Not much else they could do.

I know it's a tragedy - but knowing everybody is OK, I had to laugh at that paragraph. The boat was 65 feet not 55 as reported - wonder if they're prone to breaking up?

Looking at some of the other stories on the link, I noticed the folks in Alabama are easily offended...

For the last couple of years, there was a 34ft Cruisers named "Onward and Upward" two slips down from us in Grand Haven. I met the folks a couple of times, but cannot remember their names.

Two years ago, the guy got sick, then last year, he worked in Germany for most of the summer, so they were not at the dock much, so we really never did get much chance to know them that well.

A month ago, they bought a new boat, a 44ft Sea Ray with Navy blue side trim. They then moved to the high-rent slips in another part of the marina. I didn't notice a boat name on their new boat yet.

I noticed last weekend that they are gone, and someone had mentioned they were on a trip to Mackinac Island.

Suppose they were the rescuers?
