Today, while meeting a string of boats in a no-wake zone I noticed a sharp looking, late model, red Crownline (probably a 20 footter) and its corsa exhaust. AS I watched it pass, I noticed a steady stream of water - which was coming from the exhaust ports (on the side of the boat). I figured it would stop....but watched the stream of water continue (about like a half open faucet). I'm pretty sure this was not the bilge pump ....because the exhaust was present too.....so what's up with this water stream? Anyone got an answer? idn

Cooling Water from a open cooling system. Normal condition. Same water that exits in exhaust under water when you do not have that option.

It was the exhaust cooling water from the exhaust riser flowing out. Every switchable exhaust I have ever seen still allows water and exhaust to come out the "open exhaust" part even when they are closed off.

This topic does bring up an interesting point, and is one of the intended benefits of this web site.

It is really important for a boater to understand how the mechanical and electrical systems work on their boat. The more you know, the better off you are as a boater. You will be able to tell early on if something is not right and hopefully avoid a bad situation.

I don't have a Corsa exhaust system, but with inboards, it is still normal for water to exit the exhaust system.

If you traced my exhaust system, from the water-jacketed cast-iron exhaust manifolds, the exhaust system consists of silicone rubber hoses and fiberglass fittings. If not water-cooled from water running on the inside of the hoses, they would overheat and quickly melt.
