Why is it with more than two outboards, the center motors are always lower than the outer?

Think about it. It's a V-Hull boat, and the V is in the middle. The center motor needs to be installed lower to be able to get water while underway. Ideally, the cavitation plate is at the same height as the bottom of the hull.

F14,

Went out last night for the fireworks at Hamburg beach but didn't venture out into the 4-6' waves and ended up hanging out near midgap. We got out around 5:00 and had a friends boat tie up to up for a night of partying. About an hour in the CG boat with the three 275's hits the lights and does an inspection on our two boats. Everything went quick and easy and I had a chance to talk to the guys on the boat for about 10 minutes. I learned a few things too.

1- Everyone was drinking and singing during the inspection (except me and the other captain) and they could care less. I was more upset at everyones behavior! I assume they don't care about DUI's and leave that for the police.

2- We were cooking on the boat with a grill and they said as long as we were safe they didn't care. No rules about propane or grills on the boat.

3-They wouldn't say how fast the boat was except that "it's fast but doesn't really go 80." When I asked how fast then then, the only answer I could get was, "fast!"

4-The crew just got back from Kentucky and is trained on the M240 machine gun which will be mounted on the boat in a few weeks!

5- The CG must have quotas since they and another smaller CG boat stopped every boat that passed while we were out.

6- Finally, and this is the most interesting, they didn't need to see flares since we were on the inside of the breakwall. They are a federal requirement on open water only. This is interesting because two years ago we were stopped inside the wall and the CG was going to give me a ticket for only having the 12ga flares and no handhelds. He insisted that you needed both but dropped it after arguing for 10 minutes.

The weather nice except for the wind but the rain had stopped and we stayed out until 12:30. Overall a good time.

Interesting on the flares. Real interesting. The ones I had on board turned out to be expired, so I spent the better part of Wednesday afternoon running around to find new ones. That makes sense that they didn't ask for them then. I was behind the breakwall when they started to come after me, but the actual inspection was just outside the breakwall. I actually was a bit nervous about drifting too close to it, but it was a non-issue.

Lots of interesting stuff you bring up. Good to know. thumb

I'm currently in Virginia Beach, my cousin got married yesterday. Flying back to Buffalo early tomorrow morning, and the marine forecast doesn't look too nice for tomorrow. If I can get the time, I'll try and get out again Tuesday.
