Used to see it often as it used to be docked near the lake house we rented three years in a row. Very low freeboard for a 51' boat. More like a houseboat than a trawler. I imagine it's in great shape being used solely as a NH lake boat since new.

Funny that the builder is called "Bluewater" considering the model name is "Coastal Cruiser".

Dave, there were a few of those sold out in our area. One of the guys from the club had one. Lots of room inside, great boat for entertaining, as you can see. They're definitely not an open water boat.

They're still sold under the name Bluewater and can be found on Yacht World that way.

A boat this size and age I would be scared of things breaking left and right. Could empty the piggy bank pretty quick. Perhaps if you invest and plan a retrofit from the start. Another 20-30 grand?

There are quite a few of those running around the Delta.

A friend of mine was a dealer for them in the late 80's and early 90's, so I've been out on quite a few.

Despite their promo video outside the Golden Gate, they are NOT a "blue-water" boat. In fact, the damage that the promo boat sustained during that video shoot required it to be sent back to the factory for MAJOR repair work.

They are a challenge to dock in a crosswind... weird

Not a bluewater boat. Just check out the freeboard clearance.

Our boat is that size and age, and there ain't nothing breaking, left OR right!
wink

One big difference is the hours, someone really likes driving that puppy around! Looks VERY well taken care of.

And it's definitely cheap--so cheap, that it scares me. Gotta be a big 'but' in that boat somewhere...

There is a 70ft version of that boat that used to be in our marina. Now I see it parked down-river.

It is definately not a rough water boat. I saw it go out, or should I say attempt to go out in about 4ft waves on Lake Michigan once - something a boat that size should easily be able to do.
It just about got swamped when in following seas running in the channel came up and over the swim platform. The bottom of the sliding glass door is only maybe one foot above the water line at rest. In other words, there is just about zero freeboard at the "transom".

There is hardly any deadrise to speak of. I even have a photo of the deadrise on the 70ft'er:

Its more of a river-boat in my mind.

I have seen atleast 2 here on Lake Travis. Nice looking and water is calm enough except maybe on Poker Run days.

Phatboy, that's what surveyors are all about. Here's one of several from that same size/era that we're considering.

If a person is looking at a used boat that's more than a few thousand bucks, you should ALWAYS have a survey done. That removes the questions about the condition of the boat and the systems aboard.

Sure, things can go wrong with any boat, but when you're buying it at 60%-75% off the price of a new boat you can afford to fix a few things.

If I were looking for that style boat I wouldn't hesitate to look at a boat that age.

VERY true.

But the original "Bluewater" models were a much different animal. The ones from the 70's (same MFG) actually had a cruiser type hull to them with about 4 feet of freeboard on their 38'er. There was one at our marina, and that one at least looked capable of seeing some true "blue-water"...

Then they got "stylish" with their designs...
