They should have done like they did when unleaded only cars first came out, different filler size. If it were larger, you could use E85 or reg unleaded but unleaded only could not have taken the larger size.

First off, no matter how intelligent you are, or think you are, you should not be responsible for calls about things like this, long distance. If he did not know for certain, he should have talked to a dealer.

Second, Ford has always, to my knowledge, been very good about marking flex fuel vehicles to separate them from the run of the mill models. Besides the side markers and fuel cap markings, they also came with a flex fuel supplemental guide.

Actually most diesel pumps are yellow (That I have seen), however that is because BP, Mobil, and Meijer use green for 89 or 91, at least around here. I think Casey's are all teh same color aren't they?

BTW, I am sure that their are a lot of people putting E85 into their car whether it accepts it or not, just because of the price. I can remember when diesel was less than regular unleaded, people would put it on accident all the time, just because it was cheaper and they weren't paying attention.

What they should do, is put WORDS on the pumps so you don't have to rely on unreliable color schemes to know what you are buying. idn crazy

It was my fault (hence the thread!). I started it, I figured it out.

18 months or so ago, the family was on our way to Kansas City in the Tahoe, and I was driving. The tank was nearing empty so I pulled into a gas station that happened to sell E85. I happened to know the Tahoe had a flex-fuel 5.3 from the option sheet on the window when they purchased it. So, after a quick explanation of what E85 was, I got the green light to fill the Tahoe up with it. It performed as expected.

Last year when Bob started this new job with the 2005 Ford, he called and asked if his truck could run E85. I looked it up online and found no 2005 F-150 were E85 capable. I did note that 2006's was a compatible. I passed this information along to him.

When he picked up the 2006 truck, he called and asked if it was E85 compatible. I told him I would check again to make sure. Pulled up the database and sure enough, many 2006's F-150's with 5.4L's were compatible. He asked me again over the past weekend, so I looked it up ONE more time. Green light.

Well, I was culprit. I should have known better to ask for the VIN number to quadruple check. So, when the problem came, naturally he turned to me.

Better explained? Hope so.

All is well now. Phew!

I thought it was left to the states. I don't know. I could be wrong. Wrong wrong wrong. Infact, I probably am.

There is a green station here in Lawrence that sells biodiesel, e85, e20, and offroad diesel.

Notice the e20? No e10, but actual e20. I found it interesting although I could never burn it in a none e85 car.

All the gas I buy in Kansas is "straight." On the current road trip down to Arizona and back, all but a few tankfuls have been E10. And I've noticed with the E10, the Honda runs better when I thrown in a little salt and butter.

Salt & Butter? does that mean it runs better on E10 (higher octane rating?) or not?

How is the trip going?

Just an update: The truck is running great. I took it on a 400 mile trip the other week. 17.1mpg "unloaded" but still about 6000lbs. 16.6mpg with my junk in the bed. I kept it under 75mph, usually around 68 with cruise, average was probably closer to 50mph after we count the city driving.

4.10 gears, SuperCab, Long bed, steel wheels with LT tires. Mobil 1 5w-20 synthetic oil.

That's dang good economy. Don't think the E85 caused any damage the short amount of time it was in there.
