OK folks.

This one took me by surprise.

My son is in Afghanistan and he just told me today about how he encountered a spider the size of a small dog.

I was not sure if I should have thought he was exaggerating or not.

So he told me to look up "Camel Spider".

Google found this site at the top of the list.

Fair warning.

Nothing really wrong with the image on this page, but it just might give very young kids nightmares.

You are warned!!!!

Wow.

I just watched a rerun of Deadliest Catch; those things remind me of big crabs.

Your son needs to carry a can of RAID. On the other hand, it might just tick the spiders off.

When we worked on assests that came back from Iraq or Afganistan at work we were told to be on the look out for the camel spiders as they could have "hitched" a ride here. Never did see one, luckily...

Of course the troops in Irag have learned that by keeping a camel outside of their quarters at night, as bait, completely negates the risk with these spiders who would otherwise feast on their flesh! rolleyes
