My son & I were watching this little ol' boat come in today, and I thought 'MAN, that is one dinky little boat!' Anthony said 'it looks like a kiddie-ride boat with a motor on it!'

The family of 3 looked pretty squashed in the thing. I can't remember ever seeing a "runabout" style boat this small before! Not sure what brand, but was able to tell the outboard is a "Scott"...

Look how "big" the steering wheel is!

I put this last picture in my photo program and using the 7' bed of the truck for a scale, the boat length works out to 12-1/2, maybe 13 feet max! I've seen many a fishing boat this big (small), but never an actual 'boat' boat!

That boat wouldn't last long in my local lake with the Kansas winds kicking up those 2 to 3 foot swells.

Well back in the day a 16 footer was a BIG boat. . . laugh

It is funny though, seeing the truck bigger than the boat.

I noticed the same thing.

Normally it is the big truck and big boat, sometimes that they can't afford.

I've always wanted a water sprite or something really small for the really calm days.

Sure it looks like a small boat, but I bet they have a lot of fun anyway.
Isn't that what it's all about?

The Newman I hope to restore is only a 15' and has a lot of room. I love my pontoon, but there are times I would be very happy in a smaller boat.

I'm wondering if they can even feel that little boat behind the Dodge Heavy Duty... No problems on any ramp though with the Cummins diesel...

My dad once had a 14 foot runabout in the mid-70's, unfortunately he uses that as his point of reference and doesn't understand that my 22 footer is much more stable on the water.

That a small fiberglass boat alright. With that nice truck I'm sure the boat upgrade won't take long.

When I was growing up (a hundred years or so ago) on Lake Huron, most of the people who owned boats had 15'-16' runabouts. My uncle had a 20' boat that they seldom used and everyone thought it was massive.

I learned to ski behind a 16' Thompson wood boat with a 50hp Johnson pushing it.

That truck bed is not 7' long. Think 6' long outside dimension. What does that raise the boat length to now?

Well, here's the boat with dimension marks, and 2 bed-lengths pasted above! The boat & trailer were on a slight angle to the camera so a few inches of the truck bed may be lost, but still, the 2 bed lengths are far longer than that boat!

There are a bunch of older small runabouts to be had for next to nothing. Here's one I saw today:
