Anyone remember way back when, seeing full size cars like Buicks, Chevy's or Cadillacs with fifth wheel attachments on the roof of their cars..

Yea to pull a travel trailer with.. I don't remember the set up. I don't believe it was like ones you see on Pick ups with the slide in deal, but some other kind of set up..

I've told some of the younger people at work about em and they look at me like I'm d

Just thought I'd see if anyone else remembers these things...

Here's one article from Hindley's Garage.

And, a rv.net thread on similar. Several posters recall seeing them in the 70's.

The wife was watching a program on the Travel Channel the other day about RVs, she yelled at me, hey come look see:

They showed one of those "fifth-roofs", on what looked like a Chevrolet Caprice. The "king pin" was mounted just about on the center of the roof, on what kind of looked like a roof-rack gizmo. Seems to me kind of Mickey-Mouse.

What I found interesting is that you could turn the car 360 degrees under the trailer, so you could "backup" by driving forward if you had a mind to. Of course, you would have to perform several steering manouvers to get the car into that position.

dWoo hooo... somebody knows what I'm talkin about... I get the funniest looks whenever I bring it up..

I saw a Caddy a few years back that still had the attachment on it's roof. I doubt they hauled anything, only because of the shape the car was in..

I think I'm gonna google it, just so I can show the youngsters I'm not going senile... yet...

News to me, I've never heard of such a thing.

But that may explain the weird stuff I find on the roof of some trade-ins...
