I have an older YarCraft and on the hull about 1 foot up from the transom on the bottom of the boat the fiberglass hull has a major failure. About 6 inches of the hull has cracked and been forced in to a convex shape. I need to repair this fast, want to use boat in a week. This is what I think I need to do.

1. Remove floor and force shape back into proper possession. (floor is easy to remove, installed new floor last year and did it in a way to be removed easily in case of something like this)

2. Once floor is in proper shape place a piece of metal and fiberglass over to gain some strength on the inside.

3. On the bottom of boat take a disk grinder and rough up area and apply a boat type bondo to harden outer layer

4. Sand bottom smooth and reapply paint to under belly

Please give me your thoughts on this. I need all the info I can get on this.

Bryan

I think you have more damage internal to the boat to cause this than you think. Sounds as if the hull support (most likely wood) has failed. I don't think a bandaid patch is going to fix this long term nor be safe. You should really investigate the hull integrity before advancing the repair.

Agreed 100%. Something internal isn't right.

Zell --- A picture would help a whole lot -- a few of us are engineers, and a lot of other people on here are very experienced -- What you are talking about does not sound like a good long term fix -- it might be an acceptable short term fix (in which case there wouldn't need to be a lot of work on cosmetics) but it is difficult to even know that without a better feeling for the exact nature of the problem.

After opening up the floor i noticed the stringers are shot. going to have to replace the stringers and then work on the hull. I will try to place some photo's of what I am talking about saturday. Thanks for the info so far.

Have you considered that this boat may not be repairable, and your $$$ are better off in another boat?
