This just gripes me....

Ok,

So if it goes through, and it looks like it will, this means we can look at employee reductions in a profitable business that pumps tons of money into the economy.

I know the shareholders will vote their pocketbook but it just gripes me that some will lose their jobs and more of our capitol gets shipped overseas.

Maybe if InBev read the thread about Bud Light, they'd walk away??

Lot's of fear and speculation in that article.

I view it as a sign of the times. Miller and Coors have already merged with non-American companies. It hasn't affected their advertising and recipes.

The big three have been losing major market share since the arrival of micro brews and foreign beers.

It's a tough pill for me to swallow as well.

Not likely to happen. I have a customer who is up the ranks at A-B, and just yesterday he told me that it isn't likely to happen.

Other countries feel the same way about US companies buying their local companies.

Ask him if he is going to start looking for a job....
This news leaves me flat....

I was just getting ready to post about the takeover, so you beat me to it. If I wanted euro beer, I get some Guinness. Interestingly, I was reading an article today about how the Irish younger generation was abandoning the pubs and Guinness, for Boodweiser.

Sad news for St Louis. They say they'll keep the headquarters in St Louis, but you never know...

Yeah, and the merger of Mercedes and Chrysler was a joining of equals. Euro businesses, in my experience, have basically followed the creed of the Norse raiders.

I have some experience with that. I worked for a large independent US-based consulting firm that was purchased by a Canadian company. Their NEXT acquisition was a British consulting company very much like the one I worked for. Within two years, our management was almost entirely replaced by London imports from the other firm. And within two more years, the US-based company was a shell---went from 400+ employees to fewer than 30.

Globalism at its finest.

I think we've all seen the effects of globalization....however I can't point to many benefits received by the American worker or the general public. It seems to me:

1. we have systematically given away our manufacturing base (and jobs)
2. We have educated the world at our public (and private) colleges, largely at the taxpayers expense.
3. The far east has ripped off most of the technology that hasn't been given them.
4. We fail to charge any tariffs on imports to help our budget along (as do many other nations)
5. We don't require any American ownership of companies that establish here - as they do in China.
6. As a result of our low valuations in the stock market, and the low value of our dollar, foreign investors have some pretty attractive investments to pick from.

The playing field for Americans simply isn't very level.....and our government doesn't DO anything to solve it. Instead we shoot ourselves in the other foot with sub-prime loans and poor lending practices that only add to the burden of the American public. We enter into a war that sucks our tax money. Our energy policy is absent as energy price skyrocket. We allow our infrastructure to worsen. The American stock market surely has not participated in this globalization. We play partisian politics while our economy tanks. Where are the benefits that the American taxpayer has received from globalization?

Except I would add that the top 1% (maybe 0.5%) of this country have become MORE wealthy as a result.

http://www.taxfoundation.org/research/show/22335.html

"The truth is that the vast majority of federal income taxes are paid by high-income earners. According to the most recent IRS data available, the top 10 percent of households - with incomes roughly $100,000 or greater - pay roughly 70 percent of all federal income taxes. That share is up from just below 50 percent in 1980. If you include the top quarter of all taxpayers, the share balloons to 85 percent."

Wanna kill your basic services & infrastructure? Hurt those people.

You know, we aren't dealing with a fixed amount of money to be had; it's not a zero-sum situation. People of all backgrounds have the opportunity to become successful. One person "making it" (however you define that) does NOT mean another person cannot "make it."

I do agree completely with many of Knota-Kare's other points, however.
