What's the real deal?

It's obvious that they are baiting us, and it's obvious that our government wants a fight. On both fronts why?

I've heard - I don't know where - that Iran has figured out how to cripple the US population economically rather than militarily.

I've also heard some crazy scenarios that the US is now so dependent on Arab oil money - to stabilize our central government - that we are walking a tightrope with them - and that's why we can't develop new domestic oil sources.

Is any of that true?

Just my WAG, but if they were to induce Israel into some sort of military skirmish, just the speculation of some sort of joint retaliation would send oil to double what it is now, if not triple... that would pretty much wipe out alot of the US (and other countries) economic engine. Gas shoots to $6-8 a gal!? That trickles down to everything we produce, grow, eat, manufacture, transport, etc.

That's why if we or someone else attacks Iran, they better finish it decisively and quickly, seize control of their oil fields and get that oil pumping more and fast. I have no problem with wars for oil, especially since the people cheating us out of all this money are scumbags and terrorists.

I believe that Iran is next to one of the largest shipping channels for Mid East oil. That would cripple a lot of stuff very quickly if they just started to randomly blow stuff up... including tankers.

I heard that Iran was threatening to price its oil in Euros rather than Dollars, which would cause the $USD to plunge. Of course, Sadam threatened to do the same thing if I remember correctly.....

Iran is stirring things up to take focus of its population from their domestic woes. Their economy is in shambles and the people are starting to rebel against the religeous fervor. They know they cannot win a war with the USA and its allies. By nipping at our heels, they give the impression of taking on the Great Satan, without taking a lot of risks. The problem is that they may take things too far and actually start something. We would have little problem taking them out militarily, but we have to do a better job of the diplomacy needed to separate them from the rest of the Middle East.

Due to budget constrainsts and delays, it has been postponed to 2024.

Wow, All I can say is WOW. I don't think I've ever seen a comment like that here that paints an entire people so drastically. And to justify going to war , in essence, to steal it away from the ones who have it??? WOW.

The oil producers are nothing more than business men. If I were in a similar position and had something that the rest of the world needs and there were limited supply, I'd be getting all I could for the product as well.

The Mayan calender, and it's 2012 actually.
December 21, 2012 to be exact.

Plan accordingly. I plan on buying a million dollar Go-Fast that spring with my loan payments starting in Jan 2013. thumb

I agree. That's a shallow comment. Very sad indeed.

Thanks for correcting me on 2012. I knew it was somewhere in there. Man, I may never make it out of college if that's true. Will be in the first year of grad school....

Oh, and since this thread is going to get deleted anyways, why not REALLY blow it up fast.

It's no wonder why literally every country in the World thinks we're stupid idiots. Bill's comment is NO different than Jesse Jackson's that everyone was making fun of in the other thread in the MISC section. Expect it's the WORLD laughing at us instead of a few BABC board members.

There's 300 million people in the United States. There's 7 BILLION people in the World. We're 4% of the World in terms of population. The United States is not "all of that and a bag of sh**". We're NOT the only people on this World who are worth a dam. So get over it already and realize you HAVE to share resources accordingly. Just because we were stupid as hell and built an economy based on foreign oil ABSOLUTELY does NOT give us any right or ethics to go an invade their country. PERIOD. NO DISCUSSION ON THE TOPIC. We effed it up. So guess what? Let's live with out mistake instead of trying to bring OTHERS down with us!

So......if another country had a medical vaccine that your country would go into chaos without, and they were planning on distributing it to your enemy - but not you - would war be justified then? Or would you say that it was up to our scientists to come up with their own vaccine?

Not really an apples-to-apples example, but still close enough I think to be thought provoking. Rumor has it that Iraq had threatened to sell its oil in Euros, which would have destabilized our economy beyond belief since the value of our currency would plummet. Imagine the chaos that would come from that.

Just trying to make everyone think...don't neccesarily have the answer myself.

This thread has taken a turn I didn't really expect - (don't they all?)

Anyway, rather than the solution, I really wanted peoples understanding as to why we have a problem in the first place, and why all the "missile posturing".
