Not that I paid for it back then, but, I do remember gas prices at around 25 cents.. Also, here in California, they had "gas wars". Trying to compete for the lowest prices around.. AND you got a bunch of green stamps.. or was it blue stamps at the gas stations and green stamps at the supermarkets...
But that was when someone else pumped the gas, cleaned the windows, checked the oil, checked the air in the tires and checked the radiator....that didn't matter which island you went to.. Self serve wasn't an option...They also came to you for the money, then if needed bring you back the change. Or the credit card thing to sign if you used that..geez. free air and free water.. If you smoked you could get out, get 35 cents out and put it in a machine, pull a lever and clunk, there was ur cigs.. A clean bathroom..
I'm lucky to even find a station with air, or the squeegee thing filled with clean water and paper towels... Amazing that that's even a memory. My daughter has no idea. Course I guess that's what my folks said about us.. I can see my daughter telling her kids.. When I was your age we used this stuff you pumped into the car.. or maybe not..
And what was minimum wage then.. ... Ahhh the good ol days..
