Update: On my way into campus this morning and as luck would have it, I was right behind one of my medical technologists who drives a Prius. We both were driving by the same bus stop I mentioned before. As he drove by, he got the thumbs up. He honked at them and they (about 5 people) cheered.

As I was driving by (at about 15MPH), I honked, too. They booed and I even got flipped off. So, I pulled over and rolled down my window. I asked if anybody needed a lift with a big smile. They all declined and didn't say anything else. So, I just smiled again and said, "Have a nice day!" Just as I was pulling away, a girl said, "Just who do you think you are?" I rolled the window all the way down and said, "Owner of several oil companies. Who are you?" She just stared at me. I said, "Ok, then, see you Monday!" and drove off.

Elitist, boorish, ignorant snobs.

Tell them to suck your tailpipe, that it's better than the stuff they have been smoking, if we can get them all to believe it (shouldn't be too difficult given....well you know) everything will work out just fine!

Another great response would have been "I'm just a computer technician who has access to all student records. And you are?"

Agree with the pious snobs.
IMHO most prius purchases are "status" purchases. How many of those things have you seen blasting past you on the the freeway at 80-85 MPH?

Justi- every environmentalists worst nightmare with 4 V8 engines parked in my garage- fication.

I counted one time and I own 31 gas engines, which includes lawnmowers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, motorcycles, boats, cars, trucks etc - only 4 of them are V8's, 3 six's, 2 fours, 1 three, 1 two, and a grand total of 20 single cylinders. I'm doing my part to torture environmentalists.

+1

I rarely pass a Prius, but they usually beat my speed by 10mph. I always figured they were gaining speed to climb the hill.

Have any links to that story?

Do a google search on abiotic oil. Very interesting body of research.

While you're at it, do a search on Lindsey Williams and watch a few of the vids stored on youtube. Lots to think about...

Currently 6 V8's (+2 more on engine stands), 1 straight 6 and 1 V6, none smaller than 4.0 liter. 18hp riding mower, 4hp push mower, 2 gas weedeaters, 1 gas blower, and one electric car that belongs to my 3 year old (he is very enviromentally conscious, but already says it isn't fast enough).

I've watched Lindsey Williams and really don't know what to make of it. If all he says is true, we are bigger suckers then I thought. I'm thinking of getting his book.

The Prius is the new SUV. Think about it. In the late 90's SUV's became trendy so lots of people who never needed one dropped the big bucks to be cool. Now, those same people are bailing HARD on the utilities and are rushing to get on wait lists for the Prius.

I laugh every time I pass one.

I'm staying on the SUV to be cool bandwagon myself, although I have never thought of an oversized station wagon as cool.

More aggressive (finally!) CAFE standards might alter the future of traditional Suburbans and Expeditions. Think more along the lines of a Mercedes GL with a V6 or so engine.
