Ditto, a 1,000 times. And this is my belief as what most would consider me as a liberal individual.

The 2nd amendment was framed as a deterrent for government to become too authoritative and invasive in citizen's lives as is shown in the quotes that FLB has provided.

The government has already intruded too much into our lives and treats us like kids that need to have their hands held. Our rights have been much diminished over the years and this stance heartens me. Now, excuse me while I make a phone call only to be wiretapped. ouch

deepv.. i guess i didnt understand what you wrote then, i was thinking you said that we shouldnt have the guns that we do today an that we should only have 1 shot rifles an handguns.
MY BAD sorry. as i read the list of the men who wrote apinions on the 2nd, its very clear that they wanted the people to be able to keep the government in check by having guns so that they couldnt force their will on the masses. so yes this was a very good thing the courts have done by ruling correctly on this matter...... CASE CLOSED....... ps i also agree with what bowline just wrote. but wait till obama gets in there then all bets are off... can u say FAR LEFT?

Don't think that Obama would disenfranchise the majority of the country. He's a much smarter guy than that.

That is one of the least "liberal" things I have ever seen typed. Are you sure you are a "liberal"?! grin
