I come up with a photo that's not too bad. Not on troop's level, but not too bad by my standards.

I took this one last weekend at Deception Pass on Whidbey Island. We got there right at sunset so it was too dark for most pics. This one was the best of several that I took so I thought I'd share it....

NICE!

Great body of water---dynamic, with lots of changes daily. And the view from the bridge never disappoints! smile

Very nice GFC, it almost looks like ice on the water. Nice composition too. You should throw it up on photo bucket so we can enjoy it a little larger.

We went out this evening, what a perfect evening. Perfect temp, no wind and a little sky color. My youngest is finally big enough that we can go out as a family and the adults can take a turn skiing as well as the kids doing their things.

It is a dark shot GFC.
I am sure it was breathtaking in person though!

GFC - No one is on troop's level. funny

Nice shot just the same. Subject and composition get an A+. Now you just need a really BIG flash. lol

athiker - Great shot as well. A photographer told me once about how sunrise and sunset lighting is magic to photos. Something about the "Golden Hour". I should have listened better. grin

Thanks for the pics.

BTW, last weekend we went to the Summer Solstice parade in Seattle. The parade lasted about an hour and I took a ton of pics. Most of the pics were taken in the first 10 minutes of the parade. Might have had something to do with the fact that the opening group was about 150 nude bicyclists. Many had body paint, some had pasties, some had nothing to hide "the facts".

I don't think I'll post those pics on here, but give me a minute or two and I'll put them on Picturetrail. laugh laugh laugh

GFC - Terrific pic. I'm curious about the cause of the roiling water though. I noted FLB's use of "dynamic", and the name "Deception Pass", but wondered if you'd elaborate a bit.

Great shot GFC. I have never been on the bridge but have boated through the pass many times. Dynamic definitely describes it. It really moves the boat around. I didn't know about that parade in Seattle but have heard of the one in SF.

I've not boated in there, but have been on a bridge a couple of times. Here's a shot I took from the bridge. The tide was not moving very fast at that point. I've seen clearly defined whirlpools and rolling waves in that same area when the tide is really running.

Here's a shot of the bridge I found on Google...

According to Wikipedia the maximum current speed through Deception Pass is 9kts.
