Not for us, but we find it a little uncomfortable once the mercury passes 100 degree's.

And it probably will again today.

But that won't stop us from hitting the Delta. Heading out in a little bit to take some friends to a waterfront restaurant for lunch.

When I had my cruiser with A/C and a lower station, I took advantage of that luxury quite often.

Now, we just pull over to a quiet slough and jump in for a few minutes.

I'm sure there are plenty of places that are a lot hotter than 100 degree's, and I'm sure that their waterways are crowded on those days.

But does it ever get TOO hot?

I've boated in 112 at Havasu, but it gets to 120+,... the only thing that's too hot is the dock, the car, and the carpeting in the boat!!!

Ouch!

The hottest that I have boated in was 113. And no wind. Not even a breeze!

I don't care to do that again...

As you mentioned, EVERYTHING else is just too darn hot!

Enjoy!

Wife and son are very faired skin, once the temp is above about 100 their time on the water decreases.
Early morning and late afternoon/evening are the best times for us.

Last year it was about 105 and I took my 80 yr old mother out with us. She is generally in good health but I could not stop moving or she started looking pale likr she was going to pass out. As long as I was moving she was ok. That day was to hot for her. So I guess the answer depends on health and complextion. For me, the hotter the better.

I've had some issues that seem like vapor lock with air temps above 115 degrees......water is also so warm it's not refreshing to jump in......ideal air temps for me are 95-105.....

I wish we could get weather like that. We only get 1 or 2 weeks of really hot weather (90+) but usually its 75 to 90 most of the summer.

Yeah, we do not have that problem here. I would have to get out the bimini if it ever got that hot or if it were consistantly in the 90's. But I've never used it.

The hottest we've been out was 112. That was DARN hot. We spent much of the time in the water trying to cool off. Thank God for bimini tops to keep the sun off.

In Morgan South Australia during summer it is common to get days over 100 but once it gets over 110 we tend to spend time in the water as opposed to on the water. For the record I have seen the temp hit 51 degrees celcius [not sure of what that translates to in farineit but it is WELL OVER 125]and when the thermometer was moved into the sun it exploded. YES that was darn hot ,you could swim fully clothed and be bone dry in 10 mins after the swim
enjoy the summer everone in the northern hemisphere

Several years ago we were fishing in a 14' jon boat and surface temp on the depth finder was 94* Don't know what air temp was but is was darn hot! And, we weren't swimming that day! Only caught 2 tiny Crappie in the shade.

To hot may be caused by humidity as apposed to actual temperature. We spent an extreamly looong 4th of July weekend on Lake of the Ozarks. Three boats trying to find a cool spot to achor out for the night ended up tied to a shoreside Motel's dock and checked into airconditioned rooms. Packed up the next day and headed home.

At the lower Colorado River, midday temps hover in the 108°-114° range during July and August. When it gets over 112, we tend to use the low chairs and sit on the sandbars with our feet and butts in the water-which itself is above 85°. Not a whole lotta fun, we use lots of fold-up awnings and miss the pontoon boat's double bimini at those times.

Can it be too hot? YES. If we're on the water and there's no breeze and the temp's aound 95 with the humidity up in the 70 - 90% range, it's danged uncomfortable and gets to be too expensive generating your own "breeze" by driving around. But, we've also been on the lake hen the temp's reached 100 and there's been a nice breeze blowing and we haven't felt hot because of the natural cooling effect of the breeze off of the water. But when we trailered the boat we sure felt the heat!

Never too hot to boat for us. Bimini only used if it is raining, the more sun the merrier. Probably the hottest up here has been 95 degrees with 100% humidity. We stay in the water most of the time on days like that.

Never too hot around here. I would be grinning ear to ear if we got a couple of nice days in the 100's. Heck I would take off work and leave the A/C to go boating on a day like that.

It was here on the Fourth last year. It was ~108F, and moving at higher speeds was tolerable, but idling around in 5 mph zones or stopping wasn't. I was very envious of the bigger boats with A/C anchored out waiting for the Delta fireworks display put on by Barron Hilton.

Nope. Never too hot. That big black thing on the back of the boat cools me off whenever I want! grin

That is still a posibility on a bow rider.

We've been out on Mohave in July when it was something like 126 and ready to rain. After the storm passed through, it was a nice 105 and about 98% humidity.

Yep, I first started enjoying the Hilton fireworks back in 1977. I've only missed a couple of years since.

I spent two 4th's on the stern of Hal Schell's boat with him, Joanie and some friends.

Great times!

Too hot to boat? No. Too hot to load the boat on the trailer and put everything away and dirve home? Yes.

It is nice to be in a covered slip on those hot, hot days when I have to clean up to go home.

Very cool. I have yet to see them because I don't have a boat that I can overnight on, and the thought of going home in the dark with hundreds of drunk boaters just isn't very appealing for some reason. Hopefully I'll have that problem fixed for this year.

I met Hal once. I had unsuccessfully been looking for a copy of his Cruising on the Calfornia Delta book, and emailed him directly. He still had an extra copy he was willing to sell. I met him, picked up the book and talked the Delta with him for awhile. I wish I had been able to spend more time with him, he was a very interesting guy and was a great resource for Delta related information. I found a copy of his Dawdling on the Delta book at a used bookstore at about the same time and snapped it up.

I didn't notice anyone mention useing a mister.

I don't like being in the direct sunlight, so bimini is a must. But otherwise, I keep a few mister bottles onboard and a few quick shots to the face keeps us cool enough even at 112+ deg. That and plenty of drinking water.

At the colorado river, I've never found the water to be too warm not to make for a refreshing dip. In the river, the water is moving so keeps cool. And the lakes are deep enough to keep cool.

Temps avg. 110-115 of dry desert heat. Too hot for boating, NO! But trailering and cleaning up OUT of the water can get warm. But that was one of the reasons we moved here 2 years ago. Much rather deal with the heat and have a good boating season than have to deal with the snow! Plus we like the 90 degree water temps. Bimini is a must though.
Plus with the lake 20 minutes away, by the time you get home the trucks AC has cooled us off. Toss the boat in the garage, go in to the house with AC and a cold shower!! Sure beats roughing it like we did at Powell for 2 years!!

Stepping out the front door at 8am on a summer morning,
the heat and humidity hits like a sauna. 75 and sticky at 8am!?!

Get to the ramp at 9am, 80 degrees and pitifully humid.
After 30 seconds of getting the boat prepped for launch,
we are sweating and red-faced.
The kids are putting their life jackets on and complaini
