..what? Something I've been meaning to ask about for a while. I've always taken care of all the filter, fluids, grease and impeller maintenance, have changed the spark plugs once as well as the serpentine belt. Its the ignition stuff I'm not sure about.

I have a 2000 Merc 5.7L EFI and have read through a few tune up threads but am still unsure about this.

Other than plugs and wires is a cap and rotor all I have to change out? Do I have timing/dwell issues to worry about? Actually all I see listed on the chart is the rotor, no cap, why is that?

What's this stuff from the outdrives.com chart and are they a maintenance thing or a replace if fails thing?

It goes by engine hours. See your engine owner's book. They chart out stuff by hours or per season.

I do not see the wording "Tune Up" in boat engine owner's manuals. I see daily, weekly, annual, every 100 hours, type items to be Maintained/Serviced.

athiker - I think the sensors/modules you mentioned only need to be replaced if they fail. Cap, rotor, plugs are the only ignition parts on a newer boat like yours. No points or dwell adjustment.....you still can check timing but I doubt it has changed....

Changed mine last January. The contacts were green.

Just snap out/snap in on the cap and rotor deepv? I have a 5.7L but it is a 2000 EFI so probably pretty similar.
